Chris with the glycerol I was thinking of refraction using droplets of glycerol perhaps on a glass slide with a flower or something underneath. The refracted image appears in front of the image of the drop. In reverse bubbles in a glycerol mixture in a thin clear bottle or perhaps between two glass ...

Some thoughts. 1. Refractive properties of liquid in air and air in liquid using say glycerol 2. Making cross-eye stereograms 3. Rigging some kind of event trigger eg sound or optical. to take a photograph 4. If crocuses are in flower then doing a time lapse of an opening flower. A picked flower bud...

Brian, I don't understand the technical aspects like Chris mentioned. However, without such understanding, for me these are just beautiful images to view. I can see (pun intended) why folks could get attracted to these images as they swirl and change with time. Sometimes what we think are the simpl...

Soap films are interesting. You can show wave intereference, current flow (ionise the surfactant), electrostatic attraction (bend the film), measure the size of a soap molecule (from the steps in colours), surface tension, and more. The swirly colours thing, is interesting in that some people are s...

Soap film interference colours take 3

In take 2 I solved the motion blur just using a higher shutter speed but the shots still had OOF areas due to the angle of the camera to the soap film needed to see the colours. With take 3 I added more glycerol to the soap mix and found the colour patterns stopped swirling around. This allowed me t...

Attack of the zombie wasps

Well not quite but this drone wasp I rescued from drowning in a pot of water looked rather odd- it's eyes had largely lost their black colour. 5Dmk2/MPE-5/430 Ex flash. On the technical side: how are you stepping focus for these things? I can't recall if you've gone mechanical, and if so, what with.

Thanks Rik - Stepping it using the sawn through micrometer by hand. Approx 20micron steps.

Thanks for the comments Leonard. Lit by flash off to one side.

Some flower bits shots

Some flower bit shots taken at 10X using my light table set up with a cheap 10X microscope objective. All shots focus stacked using zerene - around 20 to 50 shots used in the stacks. Brian v.
