. . . Sure would like to have a nosepiece turret adapter thing if you have one laying round. I'd like to know what it's called too if you know. -JW: I believe the full model name for your base is MM-11U and the adapter is called an "optical head bracket". I think it's more likely that Nikon was the...

Here's an interesting note in Design News from Lin Engineering somewhat confirming the more physical cogs (motor step "teeth") the better where accuracy is concerned. I found this while looking for info on driving 5 phase stepper motors, since all my stepper drivers are 2 phase. Surprisingly, the t...

Best & Happy Holidays,
It was an eBay purchase. I don't remember what it was a part of or any other details. It was made by Danaher Corp.

What do you use to drive the X, Y, Z motors?
Thanks Ray, but not really much craft. I drilled holes in three flat plates, the rest I bought.

The drivers are Parker OEM350 with step and direction inputs and programmable micro-stepping.

It does look that way. I should have it in a week or so.

Another point against water dipping is that there's no white band.

There is no light guide inside the tube. The tube is completely blocked by the ceramic ? substance. Here's a photo of a water dipping Zeiss objective with similar appearance. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/1973_ZEISSWATERDIPPER_1.jpg and here's another view of the Leica objective (I c...

In this brochure, water dipping ones have an L, not a D . It doesn't have any BD's , or D's though.: https://www.leica-microsystems.com/fileadmin/downloads/Leica%20TCS%20SP8%20STED%203X/Brochures/Leica%20TCS%20SP8%20Objective-Brochure_EN.pdf elsewhere: " is the ‘water-immersion’ objective, usually ...

Thanks Pau. I should have posted more photos. There is no light path to the rear of the objective. The black material extends all the way to the outer diameter at the bottom of the brass ring and there are no threads.

Leica lens experts - is this a "dipping" lens?

Is this a lens for direct dipping (sorry, I don't know the correct term) into a petri dish? Can you tell me anything more about it?

Many Thanks,
These scopes often have a readout for digital encoders. The readouts are sometimes called counters. Another educated guess.

Hello Gene, Could you please show your solution with the belt-mounting? BR, ADi I don't use a belt. My vertical setup uses a Parker MX80 5:1 gear box inline with the motor, mounted on a McBain Z-Scope vertical stage with a 1mm pitch leadscrew. That's all mounted on a 18 x 18 x 2" granite plate isol...

. . . For what reason do you recommend such a large base? Why not 1 meter x 1 meter or 2 meters x 2 meters? Yours seem extreme on the small side. If it's dedicated to a single task or available space is very limited it makes some sense. Is that your only vertical setup? My vertical setup is mounted...

Re: precision planetary gearbox, NEMA 17 Voltage: 2.7V

Hello everybody, . . . BTW, the backlash of this gear box should be smaller than with the GT2 belt, shouldn’t it? BR, ADi No, there's no reason that should be so if you've properly sized the belt to the load. Beyond that, even if one choice or the other has absolutely zero backlash, what does it ma...
