Another option I have is to use my existing canon speedlight with one of these on top, to direct the light downwards.

I don't mind the specular highlights, I just want a simple system that's easy to use in the field.

I've got a bit of money and I'd like to get a ring flash/light to screw onto the front of my macro lens. It needs to be compatible with a Canon 30D.
