Wonderful sequences - might have to check if I can strobe my flashes :)

Dolichopid flies do all seem very prone to this behaviour. I've had to resort to manual mode on the flash quite a few times to get shots of them.

Mekon aphid

You'd have to be a Dan Dare fan to understand the title :). Not sure what this was doing on my rear car window but a shot of an aphid that has been parasitised by a wasp- the disc is the wasp's pupal case. Focus stacked using zerene stacker from 5 shots. Wonderful capture of these beautiful bugs.
Did well with the exposure against the pale flower but this does seem to help with reducing flash reflections from the bug itself.

I looked for the smallest unpopped bud which had some petals inside. Huge variety of forms in fuchsias though. Specialists' collections are anazing.
sorry the FF is short for full frame- 36mm.

Just for info my fuchsia shots were around 2.5 :1 FF. The fuchsia was a popped fuchsia bud where the flower petals have not expanded.

Cor that takes me back - used to do a lot of photomicroscopy with either Olympus or zeiss photomicroscopes in my younger days. Often made use use of calibration slides. Used to use a wonderful high resolution black and white film called microneg pan B if I remember correctly resulting often in 5 min...

Whilst you can see some differences in the animation, the images viewed singly seem to have very few depth clues to me and certainly nothing useful for my brain at least from the perspective. My own experience with macrographs in general is that you tend to get more depth information from shadows an...

Thanks for the comments all :)

Not sure about the golf ball theory although I'm always suprised how well these things can fly. Couldn't find any ideas on the dimples with a quick google search but suspect it's more likely a camouflage thing linked to leaf colouring/speckling.

Interesting - have to say both shots look fairly "flat" to me with no difference in depth cues from the different focal lengths.

Shield bug

Shield bug using one of my garden dragonfly perches. Shot focus stacked using zerene from about 5 shots. ID's as Piezodorus lituratus Gorse shieldbug. Not a shooting angle I would normally use but I wanted to capture the texture and colour of this beautiful shieldbug. 5Dmk2/MPE-65/430Ex flash Brian ...

Thanks for the comments and discussion although a lot of the latter is over my head :) Not sure if you are talking about still being able to judge depth in these photos, but as far as I'm concerned judging depth in 2-D photos is a trick we learn (ie not a natural ability) from clues in the picture s...
