Tiny globular springtail

Some shots of tiny globular springtails all just under 1mm body length, grazing on a clay flowerpot. All taken at 5:1 and cropped a bit (last one a lot). Think this is Deuterosminthurus pallipes. Springtails are one of my favourite "winter bugs" Brian V. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2619/408259768...

I know it's fun playing but if you were serious about an MPE-65 suspect it would be easier and cheaper just to buy a consumer canon body to go with it :)

Probably totally misunderstood the panorama conversation, but i do sometimes do bug panorama shots especially when stuck with the MPE-65. I normally take these by lateral movement of the camera and then use autopanopro with linear ? projection. Simple 2 shot pano of a rove beetle. Just to make it mo...

Thanks for the replies Charles and Rik - appreciated. Upto now I've tended to shoot with the same apertures or just 1/3rd stop down on the FF camera and have marvelled at the detail capture. I did try some crude maths myself but am never sure how precise the formula are, but came to the conclusion t...

Brian, Great to see your excellent work posted here again! I've never seen a "pupal case" like this before so I found this shot particularly interesting. My first impression was possibly a fungus as well. This "body snatching" is really macabre and fascinating. A couple years back I photographed so...

:) :) more like a melamine slippery table mat :). The one thing missing is my left hand which is normally around the lens somewhere - often resting on it and i use it to control the forward movement of the lens.

MPE-65 lens DOF, diffraction and sensor size

Didn't quite manage to find any info via search on the interaction of these parameters. I've shot for a few years with 1.6crop cameras (20D,350D,40D) with my MPE-65 lens and have settled on some "normal" apertures I use at different magnifications which give the balance I want between DOF and diffra...

Dung fly

Attracted a dung fly onto a sugar/honey mix sprayed camelia bush. Not seen too may of these about so far. Shots taken handheld by holding the leaf with the lefthand and resting the camera lens on that hand. With care you can alter the shooting angles and the background by moving the leaf. The shots ...

Thanks mark :)
Must admit the first time I saw one of these I thought it was fungus fruiting body under the aphid.
