Ok. Good. That does make sense.

I'll experiment with that. I'll add noise reduction to first darktable loop so ZereneStacker has...........better quality tifs to stack with.

Work flow question

On linux I use entangle, ZereneStacker and a Stackshot rail. I make a sequence of raw images. Then I use the Darktable command line interface to create a matching *.tif file for each raw. mkdir tifs for file in *nef do darktable-cli $file tifs/$file.tif done Then I cd into the tifs directory and use...

Pteronarcys Californica -- a large stonefly (plecoptera)

Yellowstone River, Park County Montana, June 2014 Pteronarcys Californica, locally known as the "Salmon Fly" This is actually photographed in a light tent. I brought several stoneflies home along with some willow branches and then staged the shot. This is a focus stack using Helicon Remote, which el...

On quick look, the problem is that your rawtherapee files have 32-bit floating point color. They don't produce any error messages when read by Zerene Stacker, but the results are nonsense, even in the source panel. Try forcing 16-bit color and let me know what happens. --Rik Ok that solved it. You ...

....forgot to mention. The lighting for the two Nikon nikon.NEF files above is not good. This was just a debug session so I didn't take the time to get the strobes adjusted properly, nor the ISO F-stop settings.

Very interesting! If possible, I would still like to receive samples of a couple of tif files that show this problem. It's a well known saying that TIFF actually stands for "Thousands of Incompatible File Formats", but at this moment I cannot think of what could cause the source images to look OK i...

This now has to be a rawtherapee-cli problem. RawTherapee, version 5.3-669-g478e1c0 (this was a recent upgrade) Using lensfun 0.2.8.0 ........hmm. I wonder what lensfun is. I don't remember installing it or activating it. Instead of using rawtherapee-cli -o tifs -p ./now.pp3 -t -Y -c . to make tif f...

The odd thing is the tif files this bizarre image was made from look fine, as do the NEF files the tif...

Unexplained ZereneStacker trouble

I'm at a loss. I have a workflow that has worked well for several years that suddenly doesn't. I have a Mint Linux AMD64 box. I use studio lighting for bugs and trout flies. entangle and Zerene to control a StackShot rail. Nikon D700 with 105mm macro lens and optional extension rings. I shoot a stac...

With and without light tent

Two fishing flies photographed much the same way with and without a light tent. In both shots the fly is on top of a raised 1/8" inch thick semi-translucent white plastic (Plexiglass) sheet with a slave flash underneath, pointing up, set at its lowest intensity. Two umbrella strobes left and right, ...

Stackshot trouble after Linux distribution change

I had a Mint Mate Linux system working like clockwork for focus stacking with entangle and Stackshot and ZereneStacker. But Mint Mate didn't support the Gnome color-manager for fine tuning monitor colors so I wiped my OS partition and installed Mint Cinnamon, which seems much the same but I have the...

Here's another take. This isn't my best trout fly stack but it's the one I found first. I've found halos vary considerably with lighting. The setup that works best for me so far is the following: I put the fly on top of 1/8" inch thick white Plexiglass with a thin sheet of blue acetate below the Ple...

There's a pulldown list of answers that you can select. The top one should be "I have a StackShot connected, please don't ask again." Next time the question is asked, select that answer, click OK, and it should never ask again. --Rik Oy yoy yoy. How did I mess that. My eyesight is very bad. Retina ...
