Robert,
Really nice shots, and thanks for the article... very informative and helpful.

BTW, if you have not already read them, do a forum search for "deconvolution" and read through 4 posts and threads from RogelioMoreno in 2013. They deal with this topic as well.

Thanks all! Saul, The second image (Fragilaria) was from a wet mount where I had scraped off a reddish surface "crud" from some twigs I collected at the edge of a marsh. I searched around the slide and found this arrangement where the diatoms were close to the cover slip. It was a DIC stack using ei...

Asparagus, grape tomato, raspberry and iris seed pod

Not my usual subject matter... but kind of fun! Slices. Not super thin, or extremely small. Cut with a vibratome and photographed with a 4X and 10X. This is a section of a "new" Iris flower seed pod. Two 4X frames stitched. Deliberately photographed in a "high key" manner. http://www.krebsmicro.com/...

Nice, and an abituous project! The only live "critter" I've illuminated with UV was a Hydra viridis that was on a slide I was working. It fluoresced bright red but completely recoiled at the UV light.

Hard to believe it took you so long to play arouond with this moth.

The 10X has a NA of 0.20. The DOF is around 10-12 microns.

The 3X has an NA of 0.09. The DOF is around 60 microns.

Neat... a cell phone shot. As you "hand-holding" or have you set it up on one of those brackets?

Nice set! I'm partial to the darkfield myself, very 3-dimensional and great light light on the upper surface (is the body somewhat translucent?)

Saul,
I'm a bit confused about your lighting. What difference do you see compared to "normal light"? (Normally chlorophyll gets really red under UV).

Keratella cochlearis

Front to back this rotifer measures about 260 microns. These are live specimens, but held in place by a coverslip (dropping lower as water evaporates). The second image is a bottom view. The third shows an egg held underneath at the rear. (If you look carefully you can make out the rotifer inside th...

Draparnaldia, Fagilaria, and Volvox

I haven't been around in quite some time, but now that (unfortunately) I have some time on my hands, the microscopes were dusted off.
