Should that be 100mm as opposed to 100X? Thanks, Craig! This was definitely a mistake, which I've just now been able to correct because you were kind enough to point it out. What happens when you stop down the Mamiya-Sekor? I don't know, Craig--haven't tested this. Based on prior threads--some of R...

have you tried shooting at less mp closer to final output of internet... No. My interests involve far higher requirements than Internet display, which as you undoubtedly know, has fairly low requirements. My current output is mostly for scientists who apply minute scrutiny to my images in order to ...

SONYNUT wrote:what resolution do you shoot at?
Sonynut, I shoot at the highest resolution the camera body will deliver. On the Nikon D200, that is 3872x2592 pixels on a 23.6x15.8 mm sensor.

Medium-format zoom joins "no-go as tube lens" list

Here is another addition to the list of zooms that don’t work as tube lenses: the “Mamiya-Sekor C 100-200mm f/5.2 W” designed for use on Mamiya RB67 and RZ67 medium-format cameras 6x7 cameras. This one is interesting because it is medium format, and so should have a much larger image circle than a 3...

Chris..the thing is that my monitor is a a bit brighter and I can see some defects in black area..I tried to give a good advice to avoid this for people with monitor like mine :) more black levels will sort it out the situation.. Tomas, it all makes sense now--when I looked at the image, Charlie ha...

Charlie, more wonderful work from you--I usually don't comment on your images, because when you post images, I just expect them to be outstanding. Sort of like not bothering to be surprised when Lance Armstrong wins the Tour de France. very nice Charles..You have some defects in black area on your f...

Hortfish, welcome to the community! While I am likely one of the parties guilty of demonstrating “elaborate” setups, I think your idea of moving to the Canon MP-E 65mm micro is a great next step, given your description of where your work is right now. Elaborate setups tend to be so because they fill...

. . .had never actually seen a full DIY rig apart from one called a Bratcam on here that used a stackshot with modified motor. Thanks for looking :) Chris and I talk a lot ! We do, and I value those conversations a lot. Slinky, your reference to the Bratcam made me smile, as it's my rig. Awesome po...

DrLazer, Lovely image--especially nice job with the lighting. Rik is modest when discussing Zerene Stacker in this forum, for reasons that are understandable (it's a non-commercial forum, and he is a forum administrator). But as a user with no affiliation, I can be a bit more enthusiastic in giving ...

I appreciate Craig's post--especially its detail and images, right here in a convenient form. I look forward to reading his observations as he uses the device. Andrew, I didn't know about the promediagear CD60, which looks like a useful and less expensive alternative to the RRS product--thanks for t...

Craig, No, not yet. My potential decollimating lens arrived just today, and I’m still working out temporary mounting solutions before I can do even a rudimentary test. If this lens works, I’ll need to engineer a permanent mounting solution. And since it does not yet appear to be established what ran...

I'll be able to compare it (Nikon 200 micro) with the dedicated Nikon tubelens when it arrives and possibly a Mitutoyo tubelens if that mystery piece I have coming has one onboard. Craig, I greatly look forward to that comparison. And I hope your mystery piece does indeed have a Mitutoyo tube lens ...

. . .If this is to be incorporated where any "flex" at all is to be avoided (perhaps as in a horizontal set-up with microscope objectives), a helical type extension should be checked out very carefully. So many of the ones I have seen/used have some "play". I'm not saying that is the case with any ...

The 200/4 AIS has been tried; the 200/4 Micro-Nikkor has not, yet. Chris, you're of course right, based on posted comparisons. However, I've lately been using the Nikkor 200mm f/4 micro extensively as a "tube lens" for decollimating infinite Mitutoyo objectives--though have not posted on it--and so...
