ebay 170618843424 good price...cut off the top .unbolt the bottom I have no direct experience with this particular Zeiss scope, but all the other Zeiss models I know (mainly Ultraphot, Standard, Universal and Photomicroscope) have focusing racks with the fine focusing range limited to about 2 mm. I...

... A better actuator for that stage might be the 5DM11-5: http://search.newport.com/?q=*&x2=sku&q2=DM11-5 ... --Chris I agree with Chris on everything. About differential micrometers, the total travel of the fine portion is limited (0.1 mm in the suggested model), which limits the stack thickness ...

These stages are generally very good, especially if new or lightly used. However, the ones you suggest only have 5 mm of travel (according to the seller). This is enough only for rather small subjects at relatively small magnification, and in addition you need at a minimum an additional coarse focus...

Computer-controlled focuser for Meiji stereomicroscopes

I recently became aware of this commercial computer-controlled focuser for Meiji microscopes. It seems possible to adapt it to other microscopes as well: http://www.kdvelectronics.eu/focusdrive/FocusDrive.html It seems quite a bit overpriced, considering that it includes neither microcontroller nor ...

I just looked through it using the "see inside" feature of amazon.com, and was most favorably impressed! http://www.amazon.com/Digital-photography-science-hardcover-Savazzi/dp/0557911338/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1300318565&sr=1-1 Unfortunately, none of the really useful text is there, but if ...

Is there any chance that this book will become available through Kindle e-books or some other e-book format? I have to admit that I've become somewhat addicted to e-books. I clicked the link on the Amazon.com listing for your book that says "tell the publisher that I'd like to buy this book via Kin...

Some of the relevant answers have already been dealt with in this thread. The main points of using a trinocular head (or a beam splitter/prism/mirror box like Soldevilla's, which is also commonly used in photomicroscopy) are three: 1 - The external eyepiece must be perfectly parfocal with the camera...

angle finder? The big advantage of these optical systems is that they are placed before the camera, and that the eyepiece focuses on an aerial image instead of a ground glass (= much brighter and more detail visible). Precision focusing becomes much easier than on a ground glass screen (as long as ...

Spinning/vibrating DoF adapters

It seems these things are used to artificially decrease the DoF, i.e. produce images equivalent to those made with very fast lenses. They seem to be used mostly for movies, but probably could be used in photography as well. I found the following by accident: http://www.modo35.com/products.html and t...

Nikon infinity CF objectives, instead, seem to work fine (which is not really a surprise). But Nikon CFI60 have a 60mm parfocal distance while Mitutoyo uses 90mm, no? Obviously they can still be mixed provided the person operating the turret remembers which objective is where ... Yes, and it helps ...

As a partial update, while testing a makeshift photo tube, I found that the Zeiss Luminar 63 mm on the FS-60 gives a quite large amount of lateral chromatic aberration in pictures (more than when used without a tube lens). So this is not a workable solution for low magnification. Nikon infinity CF o...

If I remember correctly Pentax made some 2" diameter eyepieces for some of their (tele/spotting) scopes! Not sure how applicable that would be here... 2" eyepieces are in fact available for amateur telescopes, and even a few 2" binocular viewers at high but not impossible prices (see http://www.sie...

Re: Mitutoyo FS-60, first impressions

The binocular head uses eyepieces with 30 mm barrels, by standard 10x with a field stop (i.e. the diameter of the field of view) of 25 mm. The Mitutoyo M Plan Apo objectives are specified for a 30 mm image circle, which is enough to cover an APS-C sensor. I just assume that the tube lens provides t...

Thanks for posting this, Enrico--very interesting to me. I'll be looking forward to hearing more as you go forward. Too bad that zoom isn't 0.5x-1x, instead of 1x-2x. If it were, I'd really be itching for one. The Mitutoyo VM-40 might be interesting. It has a 0.25x-20x tube lens, in total 25x-2,000...
