Nice pics all, but I keep scrolling back to that E. balteatus. I like the color with that background.

These are captured with some kind of a trigger mechanism on the camera, no? I thought I saw a post somewhere here about this, but I can't seem to put my finger on it. Anyway, well done.

Thanks for your comments and observations, Rik. Yeah, I'm taking these as learning examples. Setup was rather crude (items were just laid out on my desk top), so I'm not surprised that the penny is soft. And for the leaf I now have a reference point to show me how much I need to improve on hand-hold...

Very nice. Your first day out with a 105mm macro was much better than mine!!! :) (I really need to work on my handholding technique over the winter.) I like the sharpness and compositions.

Nice Brian. Especially, for me, the second one where the out of focus leg frames around the face.

Say, what is that small little thingy that looks like a little gray flower just in front of the pedipalps?

About how many images in these stacks? Nice that it held still for you.

initial stacking efforts

d'oh . . . . there's a beginner's forum; that's where I should have posted my first spider pics. Finally dl'd zerene to give it a try. This first pic is a three shot stack from handheld images. D5100, 105mm 2.8, f/11, 1/60, ISO 140, SB-400 diffused - Zerene PMax, imaged resized from 3696 wide ...

Thanks Rik. I was trying to conform to some of the "notation" I've seen posted around for macro shots, and I'm not surprised at all that I failed. I'll take your advice on crop descriptions and hopefully I'll develop a better understanding of what the terms mean over time. Thanks also for the headsu...

Hi Rik. The crops were originally about 1030 pixels or so wide. The originals were jpg medium iirc, so 3696 x 2488. I loaded the images in my old v9 PSP and zoomed them to 100% image size, then cropped out the spider pics from what was on the screen. Then resized to 800 pixels wide. Was trying to re...

Maevia inclemens in the garage

Found this little guy walking up and down the wall in the corner of the garage. First attempt at a jumping spider. Lots to learn, obviously. You folks here are inspiring me. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/2827_DSC_1311_100crop_1.jpg http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/2827_D...

Nice. I especially like the capture on the ant doing the clean up.
