Chris, have you had any thoughts about the risk of adding CA when the na is reduced?
If I compare the Mitu 20x na 0.42 with the Mitu SL 20x na 0.28 I see what you talking about here, but my own concern is also the increasing amount of CA that comes when the na is reduced.
Regards,
Conny

As others have said here the Mitutoyo 20x na 0.42 wd 20mm has better resolution than the Mitutoyo 20x SL na 0.28 wd 30.5mm. So if I have to chose I would go with the Mitutoyo 20x na 0.42. BTW, I enclose a test image taken with the Mitutoyo 20x SL na 0.28. Some data of the Mitutoyo Infinity-Corrected...

Conny, If you attempt this, I hope you'll document the effort and report on it. It may be very educational for the rest of us. Cheers, --Chris Unfortunately the seller decided not to sell the second broken objective, so I had to abort that project to build one good of two bad ones. But I have just ...

I think it should be possible to inspect the innards without taking it apart. The front and rear elements can be inspected with a 10x loupe, and you should be able to put the objective on a scope and "dive" into it by focusing up and down with a phase telescope. If everything looks clean then the s...

Are you talking about the "outer" parts of a BD version, or actual disassembly of the optics? I thinking of the M-plan series. I have an objective that is "soft" and I would like to take a closer look at the optics inside and if possible clean them. I also recently saw an objective with a broken fr...

To take apart a Mitutoyo microscope objective?
Hi!
I wonder if anyone has experience and tips regarding how to take apart a Mitutoyo microscope objective?
Do I need some special tools to do that.?
Better to ask, rather than break it.
Regards,
Conny

Fred, I don't think there are many metal lens caps around and plastic ones are far from rigid. Harold I have a few of this M42 body cap and I like it: Fotodiox M42 Metal Silver Camera Body Cap for 42mm x1 Thread Screw Mount Camera http://fotodioxpro.com/index.php/fotodiox-m42-metal-silver-camera-bo...
