As nobody else is chiming in, I will give you my experience. I have both flashguns, and much prefer the results which I get with the MT-24EX. I have not photographed the same specimen with the two flashes for a direct comparison, and cannot currently do so as my twin flash is awaiting a repair, afte...

Lovely picture.

The large Triceratium from Saint Laurent is usually named as T.Pantocsekii.

Many thanks for the reply and the link. I had not realised that this was a glycerine microscope mount. I had assumed that this was a picture of a specimen in a container of glycerine - which, I suppose, is was a microscope slide with glycerine is!

Nice capture. Phorids are always attractive creatures. I am intrigued by your comment "Fly in glycerine". Not sure that we have had this technique before. I would be interested to know both the why and the how. How do you arrange the fly in the glycerine? How do you avoid air bubbles? What is the ad...

I cannot help you with the Olympus equipment but the Leitz items are Ultropak objectives. These are used for episcopic viewing of solid objects. They have an annular opening through which a cone of light is projected around the lens and is focussed onto the specimen. I search on Google for Leitz and...

Laurie, Not sure if it will work for you, but when the bulb went on my Leitz Orthoplan I had a look at it under a scope. This gave me a part number. The number + bulb in ebay UK got me a replacement for a very reasonable sum. So much so that I bought a couple of spares at the same time, all for the ...

Rik,

Is the additional detail in the JPEG tests over the raw stack coming from the different sharpening which the camera is applying when it forms the JPEGs?

Paul, Photoshop CS3 really does not do focus stacking well for macro shots. The demo when it came out gave the game away. It showed a stack of a box with a patterned flat lid. No complicated 3D geometry for the software to get its "head" around. If it had been designed to produce nice output of more...

Marci, It is easy to mount the flash heads of the MT-24 for macro work without mounting them onto a lens. If you take the heads off of the lens bracket, you will see that there is a socket for a tripod head screw in the bottom of each, in the middle of the flash shoe. I use stands which are designed...

Nice picture of a well preserved fossil diatom. Photoshop is easier to source than sodium polytungstate, so why not use it instead to fix the glare? Probably safer too, although I know that many find it to be mind altering if used to excess. Just open the file in Photoshop, and create a new layer ab...

Frans,

I was sure that there was a good explanation. Thanks for providing it.

Like you, I hate the dreaded shipping, VAT and import duties. They make purchasing from outwith the EU very unattractive.
