Re: Canon 200mm Prime as a Rail.
Here is a stacked image from the 10x Mity and Canon 200m prime. I had to take the images manually, turning the focussing ring of the 200mm lens. The Camera does not seem to get on well with Helicon remote. At one point the camera crashed and I couldn't even turn it off. I had to remove the battery f...

Re: Canon 200mm Prime as a Rail.
Thank you for explaining. :-) My investigations are bit complicated now because Helicon remote will trigger the camera, but for some reason the remote flash trigger doesn't work. Also since I set it up, the Canon EOS Utility 2 has gone on the blink, blaming a dodgy USB cable. I will keep trying to f...

Re: Canon 200mm Prime as a Rail.
This is what a single shot looks like with the canon 200mm lens and the 10x mity, but I can't get the camera to remote-fire the flash with Helicon Remote, so I don't have a stack yet. Still working on it. The image seems like a good start though.

Re: Canon 200mm Prime as a Rail.
Thanks for explaining. The numbers are hard for me to get to grips with, and I don't know what NA means. I'm not really that picky about which objective I use. My subjects are all tiny plants that are all just one cell thick. I'm not trying to fill the frame with my subject. I could just use a much ...

Re: Canon 200mm Prime as a Rail.
Thanks, that's good to know. I will find out the hard way later this week when the adapter arrives. :-)

Canon 200mm Prime as a Rail.
Hi, I'm experimenting with a Canon 200mm prime lens as a rail. I wondered if you would like to see what I find as I go along? First I tested the clarity of the Canon lens against my Olymus Zuiko manual lens that I used previously as a tube lens for my Mitutoyo objectives. The Canon one is the Canon ...

Re: Olympus DSLR internal focus stacking as a rail for microscope objective
Yesterday I put a bid on ebay for a Canon EF 200mm f/2.8 L II USM and I've won the auction, so that will be my new rail once it arrives on Friday-ish. Hopefully I might have some nice photos to show, if I can get it right.
Thanks for your help. :-)
Jennifer

Hi,
Thanks all for looking at this thread. I have figured out my difficulty and the lenses are no longer for sale.

Re: Olympus DSLR internal focus stacking as a rail for microscope objective
Hi Rik, Thank you very much for that. I would really like to switch away from using a rail to using an autofocus tube lens as in your other thread, just so that my process takes up less head space when I'm shooting a stack. I feel as though I'm juggling knives every time, as I have so many things to...

Re: Barely used Mitutoyo objectives for sale
Thanks for replying anyway. It's a very expensive lens isn't it? It's also eyewateringly difficult to use, if it's any help.

Re: Olympus DSLR internal focus stacking as a rail for microscope objective
I just realised that I could actually do all of this with my Canon body and Helicon remote, just by buying an autofocus 200mm Canon prime lens. Interesting!

Re: Barely used Mitutoyo objectives for sale
I'd be asking about £1000 for the 20x (+ postage and shipping insurance, so a UK buyer ideally).
I'm in Cambridge.
Thanks,
Jen

Re: Barely used Mitutoyo objectives for sale
Hi, I'm interested in the 50x, how much would you sell it for? If I was selling it for £1500 would you be interested? I'm just pondering what I could buy with that money and whether it would get me closer to the photograph that I committed to take when I was given the grant money. I would be intere...

Re: Olympus DSLR internal focus stacking as a rail for microscope objective
Oh - with much further digging, it turns out that the OM-D E-M5 MARK III (about £1000) does focus bracketing for 3 to 999 shots, with the stacking to happen in a PC. The OM-D E-M1 Mark III does the same but costs £1300 and is more weather-sealed. This focus bracketing says it is compatible with all ...
