Re: Mitutoyo 5x new open box $300 on ebay

Thanks for the tip. I have a 5x but it gives a noticeable amount of axial CA so I've been wanting to replace it. Hopefully I won't end up with two! Might be best in this case to buy two of these and test them. For that price you can always sell the extra lens. I've done that before with used eBay o...

Re: Even DF illumination for 4x objective

If your condenser has 2 or more lenses and the top lens can be removed, removing the top (oil immersion lens) will provide even darkfield at low magnification. You can use cotton swabs fiber on glass slide as a darkfield imaging subject. Then play with removing or keeping field condenser, light sour...

Re: PZO MPI-3 vs MPI-5 objective compatibility

Thank you very much, Duke. Have you tried LOMO short 160TL apo objectives with your MPI-5 set? I have many of those. I like my LOMO 65x NA 1.1 water app objective and 60x NA 0.7-1.0 oil apo objective. It would be nice to have PZO work for them as well. I also have 90x NA 1.3 oil apo, 40x NA 0.95 air...

PZO MPI-3 vs MPI-5 objective compatibility

Hello, everyone! I am ready to buy a PZO MPI-5 set or MPI-3 set, and heard that MPI-5 offers more diverse objective compatibility (including apos), while MPI-3 works mostly with achromats similar to those from PZO. Does that reflect your experience as well? I believe I can adapt MPI-3 pretty well, t...

Re: Even DF illumination for 4x objective

For 4x objective, you may also try putting a piece of opaque black paper under subject, then provide side lighting (lit the subject with a ring of side lights) from above the the stage.

Re: Cleanest microscope slides for D/F microscopy

Easy to wipe off those "dust" with a soft cotton cloth. I have done lots of darkfield at home, without using chemicals.

Cover slips with precise thickness do help with optical quality.

Re: Boston Massachusetts macro and micro photographers

Hello klevin, thank you very much for your kind words. I am happy to meet you at Mt. Monadnock, or anywhere between Boston and there, with my mask on. Do you have anything to shoot, other than snow flakes, in winter? So far, I have only received one micro interest from the other forum. I am happy to...

Boston Massachusetts macro and micro photographers

Hello, everyone! I have seen quite a few macro and micro photography enthusiasts here in Boston Massachusetts area. Maybe we can loosely set up a virtual club, or email list of some sort, to have fun together and help each other out? I have been doing micro- , supermacro- and general photography for...

Those look great there, Linden! Congratulations! You have some big Amphipleura species on your strew slide and a NA 0.95 Apo. Why not give it a try by zooming in onto pixel level (to see how far your LED rig can go)? Frustulia rhomboides would serve as better resolution target there (being raised an...

Great job, Linden! How is your DF rig's diatom dotting ability at NA 0.85 40x? If you can post a 100% crop on Pleurosigma angulatum, I can tell you how it compares with regular DF condener's dotting ability. NA 0.85 is about as high as it gets for most oil DF condensers. At NA 0.85 DF, with a regula...

That particular oil immersion objective is mainly designed for darkfield microscopy (where its adjustable NA / back focal plane iris is useful). It is not plan, but otherwise a pretty good apo lens.

Thank you very much, Nick. Your detailed comment is very helpful to me. I am leaning very heavily on the MSN-202 solution now. Do you remember the working distance of Raynox 250 stacked with Raynox 150 (over your 45-175)? I lost my Raynox 150. I had it stacked onto Raynox 250 when I had it, but cann...

Thank you very much, Rik. Can you see obvious diffraction blur in my snowflake images above? I was (mistakenly) using f/22 for those 3mm snowflakes. My speedlites provided more than enough light, but I think I might have done better by using f/11. I could not get those snowflakes to lay flat, which ...
