Usually it will tell you in your camera manual how the film plane or sensor position is indicated. In some of the old Nikon film cameras I believe it was indicated by the line of either top or bottom of the camera serial number stamped on the top plate.

I did mean using a black background for stereo shots Brian to see if it enhanced the 3D effect since you are already getting a pseudo 3D effect in a single shot.

Regarding "popping out of the frame" Harold, photographing flowers on a black background tends to also produce this effect. That is why I use it for digital cactus slides for projection at out cactus club.

Have you tried your 3D images on a black background Brian?
