There are shorter (around 2 cm, I believe) high quality metal hoods made by Heliopan. I think they are much better suited for use in macro range.

I have this lens on my wish list but I'm not sure about the small working distance at 1:1 with the hood attached. I would like to hear some opinions about this issue.

I use some variable friction arms and bought clamps for my field work. The clamps are made by Manfrotto (by far the strongest one but pretty heavy for it's intended usage) and Novoflex.
