Actually, when I started the stack shoot, the flash wasn't going off, and it appeared not to do so with live view on, so I restarted with it off. I also turned off the light in the room just before the stack started as I thought the fluorescent light behind was creating a bit of a bright spot. The p...

They don't seem very sharp. I don't usually shoot at F1, as compared to F32, so I don't know how much area should be in focus though. I was using live view this time. Previously I was shooting at 1/3" and this time 1/100" which would seem to make it sharper. Could it be the change in flashes. the R1...

As you can see in many field shots here, the legs are not in focus, and the underside is not visible and there are no dimensions. Numbers less than 1000000 are slide scans. Often an ID was needing to know if there were setae, or something that weren't visible or clear. If I find another view is need...

Actually I went ahead and shot F10 with ,120mm steps, with 2 SB800 flashes. I haven't stacked yet, but I wanted to try a new beetle, which is smaller, on a triangle, and with a closeup that has a 2cm field. this one is shinier though and I am still seeing bright spots while trying different diffuser...

I am going to try another series today at f8 or f11. If I am reading the chart right then I should have steps at .072 and .14 then for those? 200mm macro with closeup appears to be 1.4x. I hoping I might get an quick answer while I am testing lighting setups with bigger flashes that just use AA batt...

I have found with my field macro photography of live arthropods, that there are relatively few that required the genitalia, while there were more that needed more detail of a part that wasn't sharp enough, or a different view, or precise measurements, so I expect a very high ratio of success with th...

the one with banding in oof area is Helicon but method B. The area above the pin is almost twice the depth of the beetle I think, so that seems too much extra to do. I'll try just the head area added next time. the softening and removing the pin means I'd have to respread all the appendages again, w...

I tried to make things as equal as possible. In 2 cases, the program worked from the RAW file. In the other, I created a macro to make cropped tiffs with size not changing, (unconstrained) with 300dpi. So all 3 are 300dpi. I noticed immediately the nearly missing middle claw in one that otherwise lo...

I added a 3rd method. I had intended to clone one side to the other to get rid of the pin in a final image. I would have to add many times the number of images to get the pin in focus wouldn't I? If I did so would it then get the areas around the pin in focus, and only having a small blur? Besides i...

As I am just a beginner starting, and this is only my second attempt, I would appreciate comments on carefully comparing these 2 images, and what I should look for to judge which procedure to use, and what might improve. Nikon D4 200mm macro w/close-up F32, 1/3" ISO 160 3R1 flashes with a little tra...

Here are results on my second trial for advice on improvement. One is from Photoshop and the other Helicon , which didn't deal with the RAW file well and I don't know what to change. From 26 RAW images 25mm field, 200mm macro w/close-up, F32, 1/4" ISO 160 w 3R1 flashes with some white packing materi...

Field is 25 mm wide. I am trying again at F32. I see that it is the antennae that are sticking up more, otherwise it would need such depth.

I should read more carefully instead of making assumptions, as I did when I thought the Optics objectives were what was depicted adjacently. I assumed with the name Stackshot that meant the capability was included to stack. And in reply to the question, is there anything else I need besides the shut...

Stackshot but no software

I thought this was all I needed and received it today, and set up a Bombardier beetle and tried several stack series. Only after that did I realize there was no software at all to combine them. I thought the Zerene and Helicon were just if you wanted to do it remotely, and I assumed for almost $600 ...
