Re: Pentax Eyepieces
The apparent angle of view of this 14 mm Pentax eyepiece is 70 degrees. Not exactly the almost 180 (?) degrees of an Imax theater.
But enough to create a feeling of looking at more than you can grasp with a sigle view.

Re: Pentax Eyepieces
I have for years used the PENTAX eyepiece XW14 with my mini spotting scope for wide field bird wathing at around 30x mag. It is a state of the art eyepiece with huge field and impressive sharpness and color correction. A pleasure to use. These Pentax eyepieces also have a high reputation among amate...

Re: Just An Observation
Fungi are living organisms creating energy by decomposing organic matter. In this proces they use oxygen and excrete CO2 - and H2O! The decomposing of a bee might produce more water than present in the dead bee. Some fungi utilize this proces to grow in almost dry wood, like timber in buildings. The...

Re: What about that fresnel lens on your camera flash?
To be a true fresnel lens the single grooves must have the shape of cirkular part of a lens surface. This is apparently not the case here. Parts of the groves are just straight lines. I doubt this surface wil be able to focus anything at all. The center square has a completely different structure. I...

Re: 3 microscope objectives, ? quality
Ben, I also noted an error, either a misunderstanding or a typo: "All infinity corrected." That is obviously not the case. On 'infinity' objectives the inscription is a "sleeping" 8 instead of the number 160. So all your objectivers are finite. With infinite objectives you don't need correcting ocul...

Re: Amazing James Webb Space Telescope
Fascinating technology. I read somewhere, that they actually had to heat the electronics during the first part of the travel to prevent humidity condensation. After released in empty space the unfolded sunshields will protect the equipment from further temperature shifts and the final cool down can ...

Thanks for sharing this, Chris.
Very creative and artistic use of a macro lens.
I saved the link and consider bying one of the prints.
An original gift for a musician (or myself?).

Re: Asking for help with ID of creatures from Sri Lanka
Thanks Doppler! I have just added links to the full size pictures on Flickr, where the EXIF-information is provided with details of equipment and exposure. I am a fan of using tele lenses for close-up in the field. As you can see in my added descriptions, two of the pictures are actually focus stack...

Re: Asking for help with ID of creatures from Sri Lanka
Thanks Bob and Scarodactyl! Both of your proposals have been useful in further research. It looks as if the spider really is Nephila pilipes although the term Giant Golden Orbweaver is used for several different species. The milliped is more difficult. The term Sri Lankan Giant Milliped is used for ...

Asking for help with ID of creatures from Sri Lanka
Just returned from a nature travel around the southern Sri Lanka. Wonderfull country with a marvelous amount of birds, reptiles and mammals. I also caught a few close-ups of invertebrates. Without access to handbooks they are difficult to identify. If somebody could help me with some names, perhaps ...
