Determining the best CPU would depend on how Zerene scales with multiple cores. I have a Xeon E5 2695 v3 14 core with 64gb ram and a fast m.2 solid state drive. This system is slower than my 6 year old overclocked i5 quadcore in 90% of photoshop tasks. Photoshop scales well with 4 cores but beyond t...

 I got a chuckle out of that. I know that feeling all too well.

I stand corrected, it is an Apo. I must have mixed it up with the Optem 10x 0.45 that is non-apo. Too many objectives to keep track of in the old noggin.

Its not labeled Apo if I remember correctly. Optem makes a similar high na 10x lens, also non-apo. I wonder if the image circle is reduced compared to the 10x M Plan Apo.

Superb results, Lou. Yes, the Nikon achromats do have some blue fringing. I honestly don't see much of a reason to change anything. Your current setup is working beautifully aside from some darkened corners. ChrisR, that objective is not a 4x Plan. It is a strain free 4x Pol. The Pol versions have a...

Hi Lou, The image comparison is night and day. That HR mode should get a lot of use. Yes, the low power Nikon & Olympus Planapo objectives have a very small FOV. The 4x Plan has an unusually large FOV. It will cover a Canon APS-C sensor at 1x with a 50mm tube lens. You could probably push it a bit f...

Hi Lou,

I'm looking forward to seeing the 80mp crops. Please keep us updated on your results. Another affordable option for high resolution is a Nikon CFI60 Plan 4x 0.10 objective with 50mm tube lens. This would give you the equivalent of a 1x 0.10 objective.

Thanks for the comments. Jam35, I'm not sure of the species. This was taken at Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden in Rochester, NY USA. Unfortunately their back sides were facing the path. I didn't want to risk being blacklisted for trampling their tropical plants to get a shot of the front view, becaus...

I've wondered if that green is structural or pigmented color but I never got around to confirming it. The easiest way is to place a drop 90% alcohol on the colored area. If it is structural color this will fill the gaps momentarily and the pigmented color will be revealed. Once it evaporates the str...

Another Video (various insects and spiders)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob6tESvi6FY While shooting this yesterday I had an interesting observation. There's a shot at the end of a spider wrapping a large grasshopper in web. Originally the grasshopper landed in another web of the same spider species. I waited 10 minutes for the spider to wr...

And I thought I had a rough day! Looks like there was at least one casualty next to the door. Great photos.

Is it a rare event for wasps attack a hive or is this pretty common? I saw a documentary years ago with video of wasps attacking a bee hive.

These are all great shots and the flash design is genius. I like the constant LED for focus. I think you can increase diffusion very easily and cheaply using any white semi-transparent material. I'd try to tape some white computer paper directly to the front, then test. If that's still not enough fi...
