Two hours ago I received a Mitutoyo 20/0.42 so now I can compare it against the USMCO already in my possesion. I've just recovered from a massive hard drive crash that has kept me busy with extremely tedious data recovery work for the last couple of weeks so meticulous lens testing is not at the top...

No, I've never heard of one that lets you shift the sensor in the z-direction but I know Pentax (at least in their K7 model) made it possible to fine tune the xy framing of the image by allowing small shifts in the sensor alignment. As I understand it this feature came as a bonus with their sensor s...

I really appreciate the hard work you put into making these Nikola.

Among the stereograms the second one is my favorite! I think you've shown here that in the right hands this technique has great potential.

Splendid stacks! The blurring technique suggested by Rik and demonstrated by Nikola is very interesting. Compared to using a couple of stopped down exposures at the end of the stack this technique, at least in theory, should have the benefit of preserving depth info so that even the OOF regions have...

I believe that comparing cameras over a long stage of development is much more than a single variable experiment. Indeed, but let me point out that the main topic here concerns the sizes of the sensors and how the FOV matches the image circles delivered by objectives rather than the performance of ...

Beautifully executed stack of this highly interesting subject Tomas!! The fly would have been a great subject on its own but the mite really adds to the image, in terms of color as well as interestingness!

These are brilliant Nikola! I've spent ten minutes trying to pick a fav – not easy but I think my vote goes to the 20x portrait since it puts even more focus on that wonderfully bizarre head shape!

I suppose the nose diameter (D) need to be fairly small for it to work well or what do you think? Hmm.. perhaps I take that back. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5055/5465678925_6bc572740d_m.jpg If the red arrow is 6mm the green one is 2mm. The nose diameter should be sufficiently larger than this o...

A lot to choose from there but the 10 groove ones all seem a bit long. :? I like the heavy duty steel ones from RevCo. I wonder if they would work in combination with one of those spring plungers you linked to earlier: http://www.mcmaster.com/#spring-plungers/=b4t81g I suppose the nose diameter (D) ...

BTW, a quick search shows that it might be pretty east to get an appropriate gear to fit a 6mm shaft. Just one example: http://www.readyheli.com/RevCo-Hard-One-07M-Hardened-Pinion-Gear-6mm-Shaft-Diameter-Choose-Your-Size_p_33807.html This one would give .035mm/click. (but it may be too long) Aha, t...

John, What would be the ideal travel distance per click for the optics most often used? And if you could "switch " between two settings, what would you like the second to be? In the other thread I said 0.05mm and I think I'll stick with that. That would mean 10 "cogs". Three "clicks" per increment ...

Can't tell from the pictures, but what is the travel of the micrometer you are using? Your concept looks good, but it would be helpful to have some idea of the number of "clicks" you feel you want with each rotation of the micrometer dial. Also the diameter of the rotating shaft, and the "clearance...

It seems like we have come up with a good concept for modifying sliders with a velmex style dial (see page 3-4 of the topic referenced above). I look forward to seeing implementations of this and hearing the reports! I'd still like to find a good solution for a linear stage with micrometer actuator....
