I hope you put a UV barrier filter somewhere in the tube before the eyepieces!

Hi, René - Well, higher magnifications are OK on the .55 NA DIC condenser for the Diaphot, but the results are inevitably limited and there isn't much point in using the scope as configured for that, to my way of thinking. If nothing else, using high NA objectives on the Diaphot requires super thick...

Hi Kurt. I just acquired a Diaphot with your DIC arrangement at a very reasonable price. I also have the more usual version, so I am going to do some comparisons of results. It seems pretty clear that this arrangement with separate prism and polarizer sliders below the objective turret is one that i...

Fantastic, Robert. Thanks for the link to the paper! Have you tried using any of the ImageJ deconvolution functions? I have not, but would be interested to know if anyone has and if they have a recommended workflow.

WTB: Zetopan Polarizing Stage

Prefer fully functioning stage mechanism, but will look at whatever you have if you think it can be repaired. Lots of Zetopan bits and bobs for trades, if you like.

I thought I would provide some details for future reference if someone else goes down this path or a similar one. I've fitted a QHY 163M with their 7 filter wheel and mounted it to the Nikon Diaphot's side cine port. Some pointers on doing so: 1. Select The Filter Wheel Control Pathway. Before mount...

Nikon has a 1x/16 TV projective eyepiece which is pretty inexpensive. A 16mm diameter circle covers a 1 inch sensor but nothing more. I have the Nikon 1x/16 TV relay lens in the cine port now, as well as a 2x and 2.5x on a shelf somewhere. One of those should do the trick, I figure. Since the .75x ...

Steedman's Wax - 50g $35

Dr. H.F. Steedman invented a polyester wax for ribbon sectioning on standard rotary microtomes in 1947. It consists of 9 parts by weight Polyethylene glycol 400 distearate melted at 60C with 1 part cetyl alcohol added. As an infiltration, embedding, and sectioning medium, Steedman's Wax has a number...

"Really depends on your budget and needs. --" 12bit is fine, 16bit would be nice. Sensor size is negotiable. The bigger issue is noise. Cooled CMOS is fine. Monochrome is fine, actually preferred. Noise is more of an issue than pixel density. 4MP should be adequate. 16MP ideal. Price point between $...

QHY 163 cooled-sensor astrophotography camera . . .

That looks like a fine camera at a good price point. What's the dovetail size? Getting it on the scope at the proper spacing might be an issue.

Cooled CCD Recommendations?

Hi everybody. I am doing some immunofluorescence studies and would be grateful for any advice on low light imaging equipment you might be able to offer or point me toward. I am working with a Nikon Diaphot TMD and a Leitz Ortholux II. The Diaphot has both a 35mm Nikon F-mount camera port and a 38mm ...

Reviving this old thread to point out something that might be of interest to TMD users. For the Diaphot 200/300 series, Nikon produced a high NA condenser mounting assembly with two slots (one on either side) for the pie-shaped phase annuli and DIC prisms. Part number for the mount is MEL30900. Ther...

Thanks, Pau. I bought a Diaphot type UV-2A cube off eBay from a fellow who posts here - it had a chipped barrier filter. Replaced the barrier filter with the UV-2B type barrier filter from Chroma (mirror and excitation filter are the same in these two cubes) - works like a charm, much nicer backgrou...

Free: Zeiss Ultraphot III and Photomic III Stands (Only)

Over the past couple years I have bought two reasonably good scopes - an Ultraphot III and a Photomic III - to scavenge bits for my Ultraphot II. You probably know how it goes... Both stands are in good shape, include power supplies (supply cabinet in the case of the Ultraphot), and are free to anyo...
