Thank you guys for your appreciacion. There is really lot of work behind those modest looking charts, more than 550 shots processed, analysed and converted into simple to understand charts. I'm only sorry I used the tube lens made of unobtanium. I do have another lens with 100mm f.l. (S-K Componon-S...

Ray, I measured 2.15x so this is 50mm lens. Aperture is very close to f/4.

Shortening tube lens advantage - MTF proof

http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/3435_AgfaComponon3M_1.jpg A fellow photographer, avid lens tester and friend Robert Otoole has discovered some time ago that many taking lenses benefit from changing default tube lens extension from camera. I have come to similar conclusion by incidence...

Ray, my MTF tests confirm your findings. Lomo 3.7x produce higher resolution figures across 2x to 5x magnification range when paired with tube lenses compared to finite mode. Even the CA was lower. However, performance below 3x and beyond 4x drops rapidly no matter the coupling. My 120G is still wit...

Thank you Robert for this test with surprisingly positive outcome. I was watching this lens for some time and finally decided to get one due to low price = low damage in case of getting a lemon. As soon as it gets to Croatia I'll provide some MTF numbers with few well known taking lenses. But you ju...

However, I think that the Apo-Rodagon 2.8/50 is not a good reference lens. It might be a great lens for what it is intended for, but on camera its permormance is far from brillant in my experience. Curiously, the "regular" Rodagon 2.8/50 did better in my tests than the Apo. The Componon-S 2.8/50 di...

I wouldn't be surprised if the LED chip has a ballast resistor built-in to allow parallel operation. Believe it or not, there are no balast resistors for parallel leds in COB arrays. They just count on tight manufacturing tolerances. But the life isn't that simple, of course. That's why you'll see ...

OMG, Antonio, this is a rip off! You are talking about printing plastics? Or maybe machinig metal?
I would print it for you for 0.66 € plus postage!
Send me a p.m. if I can help.

You'd have to photograph a reference target to get a good idea how well colors are kept. chris I did shot ColorChecker24 test target, of course. This is why I wrote the wb shift is linear as no particular dips or drops were noticed. So I believe I'll use Melodi lamp shade when shooting small object...

You really amaze me, guys waisting time on speculating does this lamp shade alter the light and how much. I went to Ikea an hour ago, had some Swedish meat balls, bought Melodi lamp for $5 (and Mrs. spending much more on very necessary stuff), came home and measured the difference. Here it is. It lo...

The Rodenstock S-3 110mm is excellent as a TL, not so much as a taking lens, but unless you internally mount it, the lack of front threads can be a hassle. Robert This is where 3D printer becomes very handy. There would not be some nice test findings if there were no printed adapters. They are not ...

Re: Rodenstock 75mm f4.5 APO-Rodagon-D 2x

Thanks for this tip as well! I had not tried the 75ARD2 at this mag, but I will do that now. 0.66x is the sweet spot for my Cent photography on APS-C, so this could be very nice indeed. Is the lens mounted normally or in retro for best IQ at 0.66x? At 1x and lower this lens should be oriented to no...

Thank you, Mike for your kind offer. While having M.Sc.degree in electronics and designing (tube) amps whenever I don't measure lenses, I believe I can manage :D IMHO, keeping cob leds at very constant current makes no much sense since those are mostly internal series/paralel combos where you don't ...

Because those do have internal current limiting resistors which work ok when properly calculated and manufactured. Stable voltage power supply plus precise resistor are usually precise enough to keep leds within permissible dissipation. In this case, obviously only 30mm units are properly tailored. ...
