Very nice!
It seems this objective works very well with the Canon zoom as tube lens surrogate.
And thanks for the information on the photographed subject and where it comes from. I always appreciate that.

Re: Specimen holding, this surplus goniometer or an aliexpress xyz linear stage?
Attached is a picture how I've added Z and Rz to my diffractometer head with spare parts I had on the shelf for some time. The linear stage, here sandwiched vertically between two angle brackets, would also allow for manual stacking, if this specimen holder/stage was used in a vertical setup below t...

Re: Specimen holding, this surplus goniometer or an aliexpress xyz linear stage?
I'm sorry if this has been brought up before a bunch, but please direct me to any keywords I should search for for a rundown on how people deal with specimen holding. I saw this goniometer for a really cheap price online and it seemed appealing, but I was also considering the ~$75 xyz stages I see ...

Re: kitchen ant
Hah! You gonna like this, Rik! :D Digging in the literature, I have found good SEM images of the very morphological structures in our European Tapinoma erraticum which beautifully show and confirm what we see in your photos: How separated this levator process is in Tapinoma , here compared to anothe...

Excellent work Rik! Thanks for continuing it, and taking us along. Following this is most interesting and instructive! But on further review, I'm thinking it's not the full story... Considering the further most helpful information you have provided, I do agree! With your newly added picture (the ste...

Re: Does anyone know: Schneider "Macro 135 1:4,5"
Chris, Hristo and Robert, thanks for your help with ID-ing this lens! Yeah, from looking at the pictures of Comparons it really looks the same. I've never had a Comparon, always went for the Componons. Though I wonder why and for what purpose Schneider relabled a 135 mm Comparon as Macro lens, inste...

Beautiful! Super crisp sharpness and excellent light that renders the colours impressively!

Re: kitchen ant
So Tapinoma it is... I am glad that my ant facial recognition hasn't let us down! :) Common knowledge is that the insect body consists of three major divisions, with different major functions. These divisions are referred to as follows: the front division as head (or caput), the middle division (mes...

Does anyone know: Schneider "Macro 135 1:4,5"
As it happens, this lens from Bad Kreuznach caught my eye some time ago. It was cheap, in as new condition and has "Macro" :) written on its barrel. Well, surely some of you can understand, that I couldn't resist.  Now that I want to use it, I'm searching for some specs /literature abou...

Yes Rik, your guess is correct. So, I'm gonna guess that "REM" here is just German for what we call "SEM".

Re: Diatoms: Kittonia elaborata (edit: stereo added)
Wow, beautiful! The stereo makes the shroom-like appendages really pop out of the plane. I wonder what these appendages are useful for ... I understand why people can get addicted to putting diatoms under their scopes! By "chipped" you mean that little dent at the lower edge? C'mon! The plate...

Re: Schneider M-Componon 4/28 Test on Nikon D850
At what nominal aperture - f/2.8 or f/4? Igor, as given by the manufacturer Schneider, this M-Componon can only be opened up to a nominal f/4,0 indicated as "1" on the lens barrel, which apparently Robert has found to be f/3,5. When looking into the lens, set to its widest aperture at "1", there is...
