Another Critter Mix Part VII
This is the same Bumblebee that my son Eddy found. It hung out on my patio overnight and I fed and photographed it the next day. Later on in the afternoon it finally got warm enough for the critter to fly off. Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F13, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to about 1...

Another Critter Mix Part VI
I went looking for something to photograph and found a Hoverfly feeding on Dandelion pollen that was more hungry than afraid. If you look closely you can see how it wraps its mouth parts around an anther in order to strip pollen from it. Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F13, 1/125, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65m...

Another Critter Mix Part V
This is a 4x shot of a Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio machaon) that I raised from a kit. After photographing the critter I released her into my yard. Image taken in Bacoli, Italy in May of 2020. Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to 4x) + a diffused MT-26...

Re: Wasp And Food "Bubble"
Wonderful framing and I like the low angle! IMHO: You are losing a lot of detail due to poor light quality. I have never seen anyone successfully diffuse a ring flash, and when the light is not diffused well specular surfaces act like true mirrors and will return the color of the light source and no...

Re: Robber Fly enjoying some Hover Fly juice
Nice shot! This picture could not have been taken without stacking. If I had used a high f-nuber to get sufficient depth of field in a single picture, the immage would probably have been shaken, or very noisy, That is why I use a flash. I can stop my lens down, create a magic angle (one that makes t...

Another Critter Mix Part IV
Cool, partly cloudy weather makes the perfect conditions to photograph small solitary bees. I found this Mining Bee foraging in a Dandelion. Image taken in Lago Patria, Italy in April of 2021. Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/125, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to over 2x) + a diffused MT...
