Thanks guys! He looks translucent (like you can almost see through him) is that the way he looks in real life? No Mike, these are just different shades of gray, I think the flash makes it then look translucent. I think the last image at the end of this post shows it nicely. I definitely love the low...

Hi Ken,

both are fine but I do like the first better because it shows a tiny bit more definition (or sharpness if you like) in the wing areas. However, both are well done!

A lot IMO! :smt023 Cropping an image for compositional reasons is okay as long as you mention it. This is at least what I think about cropping.

Well, I'm running out of superlatives! I've never seen anything like this before in terms of macro photography (maybe except of Danny's white whale). Respect Charles, this is one stunning photograph. The technical excellence of these images goes without saying, however for me they are even more stri...

Re: Charidotella sexpunctata - Golden Tortoise Beetle

but I thought I would take an overall "macro" shot first. Only a person who knows more of your killer microscope work is able to understand that sentence! This picture, unfortunately, does not show the brilliant gold appearance. This is one heck of an image Charles. Even if the image doesn't ...

It is really simple, basically you just double your image as a new layer above the original layer and turn that new layer into b/w. Using the razor tool on the layer mask you can then recover color in those areas of your image that you want to stay in color. It might be helpful to zoom in the image ...

Looks like someone trampled on her head by accident :) Okay, not really. Cool capture Mike. Did you ever fill a frame with just a snake? I mean nothing else in the picture than the snake skin?

The third would make for a good color key image (everything but the insect in b/w and just the beetle in its original green color).

Nicely done Craig, the tiger is my favorite!

Water Stick (Ranatra Linearis (Heteroptera)) with Prey

http://www.fototime.com/22A57A1B0C4B1F9/orig.jpg 30D, EF 180 + 1.4x TC + Canon Ringflash, monopod, manual exposure 1/125 @ f/16, ISO 800, crop (this is roughly 75% if the original image) F16 because I was trying to get most of its legs sharp. This little alien insect lives in my pond and is an inte...

Most of the time harsh sunlight doesn’t help much in terms of image quality but here IMO it contributes nicely to this clean and well defined capture. Lots of detail in the hairy area between the wings. Well done Bruce. Hope your friends will find their way the the forums.

Ouch, what a nice little macro lens he has :smt046 Killer stuff Tom and look how different the tastes are: I do like the third most for its sweet back lighting! Extremely well captured! :smt023 Question: what focusing mode did use the lens in for that shot: AI Servo, one shot or (my guess) manual fo...
