Yes, it seems like a lot of the new filters are called Hoya or Schott even though they aren't. But the old filter I got for €14.90 seem unlikely to be fake:
There's one left if anyone wants one:

Saul, what is the current status of this project? As I chronicle in this thread: https://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=41817) I am currently trying to put together my own LED epi fluorescence illuminator. I was planning on using an eyepiece as a collecting lens, but was worried that...

Thanks yet again. I picked up that older Schott UG1 filter from the german seller (24 euros, shipped). At least it looks certain to be genuine. And if it behaves like the graph you posted from pgo-online, it should be a good match with the T400LP. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/3207_U...

Sorry for spamming, but I have a more general question about excitation filters. For the excitation filter, is it preferable to cut as much as possible before the DM (and risk cutting some of the excitation wavelengths), or is it more important to let as much of the excitation light as possible get ...

Do you think that an older Schott UG1 like this would also be better than a ZWB2 or ZWB1?

Looking into U-340 and U-360 UV pass filters, I found many discussions about the ubiquitous chinese clones called ZWB1 and ZWB2, for example here: https://www.ultravioletphotography.com/content/index.php/topic/2367-transmission-of-zwb1-2mm-zwb3-15mm-and-bg39-25mm/ UV photographers seems concerned ab...

Be aware that you want 18mm filters and 22mm round BS (The linked one is 25mm, the most standard size) I posted a question at microbehunter, and based on the input from Hobbyst46, I am starting to feel confident that it will be possible to cut filters to size. See: http://www.microbehunter.com/micr...

Thanks, Pau! I of course know of Omega and I did see the logo at the top, but I did not realize that this was their official surplus store. That's certainly legitimate then! Edit: the description makes it sounds as if it is run by Bob Johson, the President of Omega, more or less on his spare time, b...

Btw, in my notes I've saved this quote from EnricoSavazzi from an earlier thread: I don't know if it has already been posted, but if you need an excitation filter to remove the VIS blue and violet at the tail of an UV LED emission spectrum, there is no need to use one of the modern (and expensive) f...

It seems like UV leds leak quite a lot of visible light, so I don't think that it would work very well without at least a barrier filter. I'm building a DIY fluorescence microscope right now as well. My 365nm UV LED needs to be filtered before it hits the beamsplitter and also needs a double layer ...

If your UV LED looks violet (there are ones that also emit white light) it could work without EX filter but not well with the T400LP that allows to pass violet. It would do with a blue, green or yellow BS. In my very limited experience having EX filter is always convenient: - LEDs are much less mon...

If anyone is interested in filter autopties, this is what the two bad filters look like. The dichroic mirror is yellow when looking through it and has a purple reflection. That one is clearly fried: http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/3207_IMG_20200604_141459180_HDR_1.jpg But the yellowish...

It was nice to talk to someone else about this, so I'll keep posting some of my thoughts. I probably should have started a new topic. Maybe it's possible to keep it in the same thresad and rename it something more general? You can change the thread title just editing your first post. As forum admin...

Regarding the Chroma T400LP, it is the BS I have for my 365nm excitation cube. you didn't cut it round, did you?. I was able to mount rectangular BSs in the Zeiss 2FL cube and despite not perfectly centered in the optical axis they work very well. I just tried, and mine is too big. It covers the sc...
