I'd suggest making the first marks with thin strips of tape, which could be moved around until you get them where you want them. Good idea. I know it will take a little trial and error. I have just the tape for this. There are tons of very nice, earlier Nikkor lenses available that have proper aper...

Possibly, but I wouldn't be able to apply that in a sharp enough line. There are roller-point paint markers that should work. Thanks for the suggestion.

Reversed Lens Aperture Control

Today I received this aperture controller for use with my Nikon 50mm AF-S f/1.8 lens. For the price this is a fantastic piece of equipment for quality, machining, finish, etc. But now I need to put it to use ... Obviously the adapter has no f/stop markings or lines on it, which would need to be work...

... you should be able to shoot wide open with the main lens and get sharper images since there will be less diffraction effects. I had only tried once in the past to shoot the main lens wide open with the reversed lens stopped down. Problem was I had no way to 'precisely' measure/control the f/sto...

... is it possible to shoot with both lenses wide open without vignetting?.... Thank you, Bob. And truthfully I don't know the answer - I've never tried with both lenses wide open. I've never felt that I've had particular issues with vignetting using this lens combination. What vignette you see her...

Saul , Thank you for the link. That's definitely going to help! I noticed there are no f/stop markings on the device, which would obviously vary from lens to lens, so I'll have to work out the graduated f/stops myself. Do you have any experience with putting marks onto a device like that? Maybe jus...

Well, Rik, I see you're just full of useful information (seriously)! Thanks again for linking me to this discussion. I had heard in passing a few people talking about stopping down the reversed lens. And I've only tried it once without much success, but I want to try again. Two things: 1) Do you min...

Yellow Jacket

Greetings from a forum newbie. I'm sharing this image primarily to link into a forum discussion related to reversed-lens photography that involves techniques for stopping down the reversed lens versus the main lens. This image is typical of my projects where I use the Nikon AF-S DX Macro 85mm f/3.5 ...

More great information here, Rik! I'm glad you reminded me about stopping down in the front vs. the rear lens, and thanks for the link to that discussion. Let me move over there for a bit ...

Rik, Yes, your reply helps tremendously - lots of light bulbs turning on over here! And thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed reply - it is very much appreciated. I can see the difficulty in finding the 'correct' number through the mathematical approach. And as you and Pau s...

Magnification Calculations

Greetings from a forum newbie! I'm hoping to find a macro-mathematician to help me validate the total lens magnification involved with a particular lens arrangement. I hate to ask anyone to crunch numbers for me but admittedly I'm having trouble with some of this. My only understanding of the math i...
