Janm, Good microscope polarizers doesn't present any problems (apart of mechanical coupling) but matching DIC prisms is a very delicate matter. Objectives are also an uncertainity factor, but not as much important. I'm setting up an DIC hybrid setup, and it is an uncertain and risky adventure. I wou...

Re: FAQ: How can I hook a microscope objective to my camera?

[ I am not taking in account the "chipped" adapter that accepts M42x1 threaded optics on the lens side, and presents an interface to the camera. It seems that for Nikon this is less suitable and not really needed. I have read that some Nikon bodies don't meter without a chip while others like D300 ...

It's not about magnification but a so hairly subject is usually prone to stacking artifacts.

Not bad at all!, in fact I find it fairly good for a difficult subject. Sometimes a post remains unanswered and ends burried under a ton of more recent ones. You can search in the forum main page for "View unanswered posts" and find lots of them. This doesn't mean that the pictures are bad or the to...

NU,
a very clever idea!. I also hate to see good microscopes butchered.
A hole in the wood stage may allow background transillumination.

The only problem I find is that the specimen is a bit too high to work comfortably.

Be aware of the ChrisR post about that this cone adapters may induce flare and need to be flocked with light absorbing materials Protostar or a circular stop.

Fiber optic illuminators and guides are expensive new, but often can be found at very reasonable prices on eBay, you need to be patient. Also there are very bright LEDs. With cheap LED lamps like the Ikea JANSJÖ many forum members do excellent stacks. What kind of camera and difusser are you using?....

Re: Outreach

Letting a class of youngsters twiddle the focus knobs on my BH2, rotate objectives, touch the glass, is not in the cards. But I do like the idea of a microscope demonstration as long as it is not my scope - call me selfish if you wish. At my school lab I spend few hours at week cleaning and adjusti...

There's room for misunderstanding here. With a 600D, the live view in MANUAL mode is the exposure-simulation one, so its darkness depends on the shutter speed setting. Yes, I retested it in the 7D and compared the exposure simulation behavoir between two similar lenses (50mm), a Canon EF and an Oly...

Not at all, got it right with 500D and 7D. metering is fine, you need the chip for focus confirmation. Because you have both models and I asume you also have an unchipped adapter, please try them in M mode and tell us. I can confirm all I said with 50D and my 7D (and the Charles and Rik's posts are...

Chris, As Charles Krebs said in another post, XXXD EOS series have a LV implementation similar to the "Silent mode exposure simulation" in cameras like 50D and 7D. I never used a XXXD camera with live view but with the 50D and 7D i you set "exposure simulation" the LV image is dark without a EF lens...

For that applicaion, a M42 mount bellows may be the most convenient. Accesories like adapters for M42 are easy to find and usually cheaper than for other mounts. The best bellows I know (and own) for M42 is the Pentax auto bellows like these ones: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASAHI-PENTAX-AUTO-BELLOWS-le...

Thanks, Dave,
I agree with your observations, as DIC inexpert I highly apreciate the opinion of experimented users like you.
