Beautiful picture but how in the world do you find these guys. I've seen about a dozen mantis in the wild in my entire life and they where all big green ones (-:}.. I want to come follow you around a field!

Thanks for the education Dave. When my son was about 4 years old he brought home a prickley pear pad he found in the park and wanted to grow it. Only problem was he had a ball with him and it took both hands to carry that. He brought the pad home under his arm! Just a "T" shirt on and we picked hund...

Actually this was pretty simple. First I got a plastic water bottle (we drink it by the case) and made a pin hole in it (tiny, took 3 tries) to be my milk "dripper". Suspended over the sink from an expandable curtain rod stuck between the cabinets. Receiver was a black ceramic cereal bowl (from a re...

Joan, I like the bottom picture the best. I'll usually do anything I can to get a bug out of carpet grass into a more natural looking setting. When I see carpet grass in a bug pic, I know there's got to be a lawn chair just out of the photo. Sometimes it just can't be avoided but I like what you did...

Super images Arlon. I think we all have our favourite cameras and lenses. Thank goodness I do not have anyone to swipe mine. It's not so bad. I like that we can go out on a photo jaunt and be enthusiastic to the point of being competitive. I just hate it when she gets a better shot than me wi...

I think it's the electronic vs mecanical shutter that has a lot to do with it. Most all of my D50 shots are at pretty high shutter speeds where the electronic shutter should be controlling the picture. Mechanical shutter opens, sensor is turned on and off then the mechanical shutter closes. D200 is ...

Nice capture, Arlon. Looks pretty sharp to me! I wonder why you prefer the D50 to the D200 though. After thousands of pictures I just think the d50 makes sharper images in my hands for my style of shooting than the d200 does. Have my thoughts why but any way I do it, I get sharper images from the D...

Mexican Honey wasp

These little fellows love the fall/winter blooms of the Japanese Aralia.
Not the sharpest image but my wife won't give me my D50 back so I'm stuck shooting macro shots with the D200..

How to mount a microscope objective on a bellows?

Or is there even any point in trying? I just have a 10x objective from an old microscope and thought it would be fun to try getting to focus through a bellows on my D200. I have nikon and t mount bellows to play with.

Trying this on film would be an exercise in futility. I get 1 in 10 sometimes. If I get into a good rhythm I might do as well as 1 in 3. When I have to do dishes, I like to play a little too. Only takes a few seconds to set up and I get hrs of fun going through 100's of shots when I finally get the ...

Ken all of the color comes from the plate the water drips onto. I just set a ceramic dinner plate in the kitchen sink (we have a few in different colors), let the faucet drip and start shooting pics. I sometimes set something for the background like a different colored towel. The background in the f...
