Beautiful and technically interesting photo! I'm really looking forward to more photos and tests showing the advantages of so many pixels! BTW, I use Firefox 14.0.1, and I had no trouble viewing your full-size photo. Some time ago I decided to stay with an older version of Firefox in order to avoid ...

I hope someone will create a laser focusing device that will make this type of remarkable in-flight photography available for ordinary mortals! For sure, I would never be able to take them without such focus assist devices...

The longhorn beetle face shot is very dramatic and enjoyable!

I also enjoyed the lighting in the photo of the two snails - there is something in the lighting that makes this scene feel unusually rich and pleasant. I wish I could be more specific! Even more, I wish I could take such photos myself!

The first photo is my favorite of this set - I love the pose and the clarity with which so much detail from the whole scene are shown.

All the photos are exceptional, though, and I don't have a clue how to take such spectacular photos in the field!

I look forward so much to each year's new design - so much to learn from these systems!

Do all or most macro lenses transmit most of the available UV light? Has there been significant progress in the brightness of the available UV light sources since this 2011 thread was started? I am remembering that UV-blocking filters are readily available, which has always made me wonder how much U...

Spiders happen to be my favorite or at least one of my most favored bugs. These photos are most enjoyable, very beautifully illuminated, and the pose of each spider is very interesting. It's especially interesting when I see a combination of these things so beautifully executed. Thanks for posting t...

Is the light source unusual in any way(s)? In particular, I am thinking about light sources with complex spectra. Also, is the intensity profile of the light source relevant? Putting complex light source spectra together with complex light source intensity profiles is certainly a challenge. Interest...

I still think its images of inertial confinement fusion! (insert more grins here)

I wonder if the math models of that process and Rik's optical process have any similarities? This is left as a homework assignment for the interested reader.

I very much agree with the recommendation to optimize flash diffusion for your needs and situation. All general-purpose macro flashes need diffusion add-ons as far as I know. A ring flash is an exception but it is hard to use for bugs such as a jumping spider's eyes due to the ring shaped flash imag...

I can't offer a realistic identification of these interesting patterns, but here's a highly unlikely explanation: I suggest that these are images of inertial confinement fusion targets, where one focuses multiple extremely high-energy laser beams on a tiny pellet of heavy isotopes of hydrogen. If yo...

Most flash units have fairly low limits on the max number of sequential flash exposures that can be taken without overheating. One should touch one's flash heads frequently to make sure they're not too warm from time to time. BTW, Quantum flash units are continuous duty and apparently have no overhe...
