Oh yes, I have imported plenty from the US in the past and a courier firm is a guaranteed way to be stung - big time. It's one thing to have to pay 20% "Import VAT" to the government (while at the same time not being able to claim back any pre-paid US taxes) but then the couriers slap on admin fees ...

On flies the ant body part would be the prosternum but I'm not sure whether it is the same in ants :D

Lovely photos though! :D

Fair price for the objective but that shipping charge is crazy ... it's not like they are the Crown Jewels or anything all that valuable - I'd have thought that $15-$20 would cover anything that size to the UK.

Very nice - those Phromnia are a gift to photography - I think I'd run off 100s of different shots of them. The colours and structural forms make for very interesting possibilities :)

Very nice to see a tachinid - and such a handsome one too :D If you get any 'spares' then I'd be very happy to have a few - I have very little nearctic reference material.

Thanks again Charles - I am working on the principle that the least glass there is between the sensor and the subject matter the better - and if there is glass then it is better to have Leica (or other high-quality) than to have some Chinese stuff off eBay ;) Hence removing the 'kit' that I was supp...

Chris, I still believe your illumination set-up for photography under the stereo will give you headaches. If you have live view and a HDMI monitor, mine is 19", positioning under an objective or any lens is simple. That's a very good point - I have a camera bracket for this rack-stand so I should i...

Thanks again Peter, g4lab & NU - I am looking into the various adapters and have sent an email off to my suppliers to arrange some returns. :D I think it's very likely that I could achieve some higher-clarity images using the bellows & microscope objectives but one reason for using the S8 was the ea...

http://www.spotimaging.com/accessories/coupler/ Go to Diagnostic Instrumens and buy a DD20LST 2.0x coupler to fit your scope which has a T Mount. It will drop right into your scope , give the correct magnification and accept a T mount which will adapt it to any camera. Thanks for that - very much a...

@Charles - I see what you mean - the T-mount does seem wider than the C-mount and, as I have a C-mount in the system at the moment that must be the cause of the vignetting I am getting. I have tried your suggestion of holding the camera above the lower tube and varying the position until I get a foc...

I have just done a few more tests - removing the GT Vision tube and the adapters / spacers so that I just have the 2 Leica parts - ending in a C-mount. I seem to get a clear image in the camera at the point of the C-mount so I will buy the eBay C-mount to EOS adapter that g4lab suggested and see if ...

Thanks Charles - I think I have found the problem by removing the eyepiece entirely so that the GT Vision tube is just straight-thru and empty. Now, I have lost parfocality with the main eyepieces but it is only slightly out so I think I can regain that by removing one of the small spacers. But the ...
