Re: DIC with Leitz 170mm or 160mm TL system

Hi Guys, I'm searching for a list of compatible condensers and objectives for a Leitz 170mm Orthoplan. I see condensers on eBay and Polarising sliders, etc. But I cannot seem to find 170mm TL objectives with matching wollaston prisms. I can find plenty of infinity corrected ones though, like this: ...

Really enjoying the discussion - and interested in the shift to 6K mp4 collection of extended focus stacks. I've been using extended focus to image small liverwort plants, an offshoot of our research in Cambridge, where microscopy plays an important role in integrating genetic, cellular and tissue-...

Re: "Special objective" for centering epi illumina

I remember reading on one of the Olympus web pages that one can use a "special objective" designed for centering epi and epi-fluorescence microscope illuminators. The page did not discuss how this accessory works, nor its technical name, nor an Olympus model name or number. I assume this is an acce...

Re: Tripod for remote outdoor macro?

Hello Forum, I'd appreciate tripod recommendations for a Lumix G9 + Olympus 60mm macro (total weight = 840g). The tripod needs to be as light as possible because it would be carried in my backpack during long days in the field, often up big hills. Many thanks for any help. Cheers, Des :D Hello Des ...

A fascinating and very useful result. Standard [No. 1] cover-slips are often said to be 0.13-0.17mm. I have no idea whether the slips really do vary so widely in thickness, either within a batch or from batch to batch, but if they do maybe a micrometer could be used to identify three thin slips to ...

Yes, nice image. Lichens, and mosses and liverworts do make good subjects, where you only notice some of the detail when you look close. This is tuft of moss, the anomalous bristle-moss (Orthotrichum anomaly) which is around 1 cm high, perhaps slightly more. I have just realised this was taken in th...

One is a wild heerbrug prism ring, maybe some kind of vertical illumination beam splitter for stereo microscope? Yes, I think it is intended to illuminate in between the optical paths. Yes, Zeiss made a similar (almost identical) device for their stereo models. It screws to the lower ring, and you ...

Unfortunately this is very much the case.

Two views of the same diatom (Pinnularia sp) of mine had very differing hits. It took me a while to realise the most popular (by 20x) was merely because it was the girdle view.

Sad in many ways.

I had the same problem but it was a lot easier to pick one up on eBay. From my experience, with my particular printer, I would modify the collector/filter holder slightly so it can be printed completely 'flat' in the orientation of your last photo. I might have to think about that statement more. <...

Nikon Optiphot lamp-house 'cradle' issues.

I am wondering if anyone else has had issues with the plastic 'cradle' at the back of a Nikon Optiphot fracturing and breaking? It attaches to the microscope base with four screws, and extends about 2.5 cm (an inch in old money), with a 50mm diameter ring at the rear to take the lamp collector lens,...

Re: WTB: Nikon epi-illuminator

I am looking for a nikon epi-illuminator, such as this one on Ebay , of similar. In fact, the ebay-one looks quite good and complete, but for the missing "optional item". Isn't this a most important switch? Preferably not USA (excessive shipping cost). Hello there I have a defunct item, without eit...

Thanks to Michael and David for starting this thread, and following up on it. As a fairly long-time user of the Olympus M4/3 cameras and latterly focus stacking on the EM5-II (though the method I use is called focus bracketing in the menu) with the 30mm macro, this is of great interest to me. Becaus...
