Thanks for the comments :) Chris - it's not as hard as all that :) Lighting was just my standard diffused flash bracket mounted on the camera. Fuchsia was already clean because I cheat a bit- i use an unopened large bud and pop it open and fold back the sepals a bit- main reason for doing this is no...

Fascinating! Do I not watch enough flies, or do these things are a really weird mating posture with the female's abdomen bent upward so tightly it's crimped? --Rik Thanks Rik, This is a rather odd posture for mating flies as you say with the female's abdomen almost bent double. Not seen anything qu...

Jaw hanging slack in admiration... These are gorgeous! I saw some images similar to these on another forum. Did I understand correctly from your posting there that you shoot these with a camera hand-held on a flat surface? --Rik Hi Rik - thanks for the comment :) Yes - I just shoot these on a table...

Good start- think Rik has made some pertinent comments above- would just emphasise that working on your flash diffusion will help.

Just desserts

Often taken pics of flat-footed flies doing their display routine by running around leaves at high speed but never caught any successfull outcomes until yesterday. These are focus stacked but by hand in PS Brian v. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2717/4062822373_379087fb6e_o.jpg http://farm3.static.f...

It was my assumption (maybe wrong) that most photographers would be using monitors with higher resolution than 1024 px width nowdays. Me too. But the last time we discussed this (Sept 2008), it turned out that photomacrography.net's most prolific poster had opted for 1024 X 768. I've posted a poll ...

Hi Rik ,
It was my assumption (maybe wrong) that most photographers would be using monitors with higher resolution than 1024 px width nowdays.
As I commented earlier, all the other photography forums I use allow 1024 pixel width without anybody complaining about it.

I think it's to facilitate people on dial up who might want to look. I was stuck in dial up land for 2 weeks and it drove me insane. It's really not much fun at all and I couldn't visit my normal photo forums at all. Yes I can appreciate the problem for dial customers but that is getting fairly rar...

Posted picture size limitiation

Just wonder if there's any thoughts on reviewing the posted picture size limitation of as I understand it, 800px max length and 200Kb size ?
Most forums now allow upto 1024px max length

An orb spider gets stacked

Focus stack comparison of a common orb web spider. Hasten to add the spider has not been got at in any way apart from me lifting the leaf it was on (it was in between web spinning jobs) onto the ground for an easier shooting position.
