Re: replacing Nikon FX-35A camera
Someone correct me if I'm wrong. It looks to me like all you need to do is to remove the entire camera part and Nikon V-T tube. https://www.lmscope.com/en/Nikon_eclipse_e400_e600_digital_Adapter_en.html Then mount a Nikon YT-TV adapter, a Nikon 1x C-mount TV adapter A and attach a C-mount to M4/3 ad...

Re: replacing Nikon FX-35A camera
I assume that any Nikon full-frame body could be used to replace the Nikon FX-35A. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If I am correct, is there any particular body I should look for (or avoid). Hi, Nikon DSLRs were unsuitable until recently because the shutters induced vibrations. Some of the newest b...

Re: microscope infinity optical system setup for wild bees macro photography?
Hi, Just from an entomologist's, not macro, standpoint: The pictures in the paper are excellent for a scientific publication (considering the small size and the large volume of illustrations that had to be made for the paper). The stacks of the genitals and antennae with their microsculpture are out...

Thank you all for your contributions which I keep reading with interest. The Y-joke looks interesting, never heard of that before but it makes total sense.

Re: staining blood with giemsa
Hi, [If you can't get the buffer, use the Evian method (link above).] I'm very sorry to hear that. As you can see, even very basic diagnostics can be difficult and are highly regulated to ensure reproducible results. I strongly advice against using any home diagnostics as a basis for treatment decis...

In that case, can you measure the dovetail dimensions (hight, min and max diameter; angle to confirm)? It looks like the Lomo/Jena dovetail but it could be anything.

Re: staining blood with giemsa
If you can do so, also measure the pH of your destilled water (whatever you're using) and your tap water. As you can see from the Magnacol trouble shooting instructions, the pH has a slight effect on the staining results. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC540181/

Re: Meopta lens problems
Hi, The 45:1 requires the object to be covered with a cover glass. Ideally, there should also be a mountant between the blood smear and the cover glass as well (balsam or a drop of immersion oil). The open, uncovered smear results in strong spherical aberration. https://www.olympus-lifescience.com/f...

Re: Would you recommend a tripod or monopod for macro in the field?
Hi Enrico, Hi Beatsy, Thank you for your input, that's very useful! I also use those handheld techniques when I'm walking around but it's too exhausting (especially on my eyes looking through the viewfinder) when I'm semi-stationary, like when I'm waiting for for a few minutes for insects to return ...

Yes, it works https://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=25345 But I haven't done any systematic tests of image quality since. I was thinking about using a 0.7x camera speedbooster for the same purpose but I haven't brought myself to spend the money on this when afocal is so much ea...

Re: staining blood with giemsa
I am not sure what "buffered" means in this context. It's not immediately obvious what the problem is. I do my blood smear stainings on a staining rack (slides horizontal and in the open) which doesn't use a lot of reagent if you only do a few slides. I use a Giemsa buffer for diluting the staining...

Re: staining blood with giemsa
Hi, After washing off the stain, did you dry again? What is the colour of your dry, stained blood smear? The smear should be purple (naked eye) and the RBCs should be red under the microscope. If they remain unstained, the staining didn't work. Frequent problems are expired Giemsa dye (which dye is ...

Re: (Updated)Objective projection SwiftSW350T on to camera (Canon) sensor
According to my literature, Meopta had 170 mm tube length and 11 eyepiece parfocal length. So the tube length for direct projection should be 159 mm. At that distance, all the Meopta objectives will be parfocal at you sensor. The Zeiss 6.3 won't be exactly parfocal at the same length. Small diviatio...
