Re: Would you recommend a tripod or monopod for macro in the field?

Hi, Thanks everyone for the suggestions. @Dalantech That's a great idea. It doesn't lend itself to my usual setup with a 105 mm lens (my hands aren't that big  ) but I recently started using the EF-S 24mm for macro, which would be suitable. Still have to figure out if I need to drink more or l...

Re: Help needed: DIC components necessary for my Oly

Now I'm not even sure if my U-PCD is designed for oil immersion or not, it does have a higher NA of 1.25, higher than the U-TLD's 0.9, and the U-PCD-2 at 1.1??? What? So the V2.0 has a lower NA? Can't find any information online, maybe I should try and compare the methods. Surely the oil isn't too ...

What does the "I" even mean here?
I think it's "Iris". As in oil iris objectives.

Re: Help needed: DIC components necessary for my Oly

Hi, - U-DICT: Transmitted DIC module that goes into the nosepiece - U-DICTS: Same as above, but apparently it can be adjusted? However there's no slot for a polariser, and it's not much different to above. Using this would require some extra hardware to hold a polariser, I don't want that mess. Just...

Re: The Canon R5

I think it was in a review by Gerald Undone that it was mentioned that shooting stills will contribute to the over-heating issues Hi, Does it say anywhere how the test was done? I couldn't see it in the YouTube review. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDXPiu3wpBs I'm asking because there is another ...

Re: First photos and image editing

So summarising do you think by using SPlan Apo objectives i lose some image quality or only F.N.? So is it possible to use even higher NA objectives for example 40x on copepods and get a sharp image? I understand that mount preparation has to be perfect, but assuming it is, at what NA does copepods...

Re: The Canon R5

For studio use, active cooling might be feasable. There are various setup ideas circulating in the astronomy community for cooling these cameras, e.g. https://www.myastroscience.com/dslrcoolerbox (haven't tried it myself).

Re: First photos and image editing

Hi Karol, Welcome to the Forum. There are two issues that you need to deal with from the start: Spherical aberration and depth of focus. 1) Spherical aberration https://www.olympus-lifescience.com/de/microscope-resource/primer/java/aberrations/spherical/ prevents you from getting a sharp image of yo...

Re: Q: (dome, sheet, tilted) lighting for DSLR+tube lens+plan APO

it must be possible to move a plan apo (before or during stacking) into a lighting dome, due to working distance. Correct? They also write something about this in the paper: "Before constructing the mini-dome, we advise the user to determine the working distance of their lenses for this application...

Re: Q: (dome, sheet, tilted) lighting for DSLR+tube lens+plan APO

Based on what paragraph (page number) in the article did you come to your conclusion quote "The light is corrected with the specimen, not the camera+objective. That way the illumination doesn't change as the objective moves during stacking."? Hi Jac, I would say you see this in Fig 5. G+H and in Fi...

Re: replacing Nikon FX-35A camera

Hi, 1) The idea I described above is the following: The camera sensor is place exactly at the location of the intermediate image in/above the phototube = "direct projection". With the Nikon YT-TV adapter and Nikon 1x C-mount TV adapter A, the intermediate image should be located 17.526 mm above the ...
