Looking for serial numbers: Laowa 100mm 2x EF automatic with RF compatibility
Hi, As I mentioned in another thread, there are examples of the Laowa 100mm Macro 2x f2.8 EF version (automatic aperture) that are not fully compatible with Canon RF mount cameras. Although they are lenses for full frame sensor, when mounted to a Canon Rx, they force the camera into crop mode (1.6x)...

Re: Olympus U TLU tube lens vs SWTR-2 Superwide Head
Ah, I see. So that only affects the corners and the sides are much better? Maybe then it's just a spec issue? Does Olympus say anything about the expected sensor size on the U-TLU? Maybe it's just enough for m4/3, their own cameras. Then it would make sense that the SW head covers a much wider area ...

Re: Olympus U TLU tube lens vs SWTR-2 Superwide Head
The scope came with an analyzer slider, and I put a simple film polarizer over the field lens. I took photos with the analyzer in and out. Hi, Did you take the polariser over the field lens out as well? Using polarised light in brightfield can cause problems via internal refections in the trinocula...

Re: Macro gear for a beginner?
Hi, It depends a lot on the type of subject (static or fast-moving) and on the reproduction ratio (0.5x - 1x you have many options; higher than 1x is more demanding on the equipment and technical skill and requires a lot of practice). Personally, I have used the following: 1) Canon EF-S 24mm f2.8 (a...

Re: This Just Seems Strange
In this case, with a US seller listing 9400+ items, maybe it's just a lack of price research by the seller? They are selling such a potpourri of stuff. Between the "best offer" option, low postage costs, no need for a credit card, no new account, and no restocking fees, it might even be easier to bu...

Re: What's in the name: filter puzzles
Hi, I suspect the Schott glass names are chronological. They have a 150+ year history, it would be logical to stick to 1 name = 1 glass rather than constantly renaming them according to their property lineup. Apart from that, Schott: UG: Black and blue glasses, UV transmitting BG: Blue, blue-green, ...

Re: Does anyone have the Laowa 100mm x2 macro lens?
The copy I had had thin patches of grease but not a thick layer.
You're right, it should be used with the Laowa front filter. Otherwise, it will collect lots of dust sticking to the grease film.

Re: Stereo Zoom Microscope - What to buy?
Hi Owen, Thank you for the clarification. I think the GXM is a none-starter. The magnification range you get is between 1x - 4.5x. At the higher end, these stereo microscopes optics are usually not very good; so the usable range is maybe 1x - 3x. There are many other affordable and superior optics a...

Laowa 2x problem: forced crop mode on RF mount
Hi, I'm testing a Laowa 2x macro lens (EF version with automatic aperture) on my Canon RP camera (corrected through an automatic EF-RF adapter). The lens enforces 1.6x crop mode on the RP, in the same way that EF-S lenses can only be used in crop mode on this full frame camera. I have gathered from ...

Re: Stereo Zoom Microscope - What to buy?
Hi Owen, What's been you experience with stacking so far? In broad terms, stereo microscopes are not ideal for stacking because of the inclined optical axis (reduces image quality and stifts the image during stacking). Alternative methods (low magnification: macro lens + focus bracketting; higher ma...

Re: How to achieve Kohler with an Orthoplan
Hi David,
I agree; just post a few images of your setup. Something stange is going on as that should work well (with an NA 0.9 condenser front lens).
Do you have any other Leitz condeners that can serve as a reference?
Regards, Ichty
