Re: Little Jumping Spiders

Definetly. I am impressed by the possibilities of modern technology. Some time ago, jumping spiders had been some kind of holy grail in spider photography and today we are talking about focus stacking of live ones. This doesn't rate any modern picture down, there is still quite some knowledge necess...

Re: Some Insects and spiders in my garden

Well, not direct a spider, only the skin. This is my "halloween shot", I think... In reality, the skin is hanging down, of course. But i rearranged it a bit for a more spooky look. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53961722740_94701e3e50_z.jpg 20240831_165655_P1379743_STACK_14_DxO by Mat...

Re: Some Insects and spiders in my garden

Just a hoverfly (OK, not hovering. Sorry.). And a very patient one, I have to admit.

1:1 with the Oly 60, slightly cropped.

Re: Little Jumping Spiders

Fantastic close-ups - especially the last ones with its prey.

I love these spiders with their big, reflective eyes - but I am not sure if this is a pro or a con, because it is quite impossibe to hide the camera setup...

Re: Some Insects and spiders in my garden

Thanks, but especially for the bees I am basically just sitting in front of the flowers and waiting for things to happen. And deleting quite some pictures afterwards.

Lighting is by flash and a standard "macro diffusor".

Re: Some Insects and spiders in my garden

The little crab spider is having a snack - i found this out while editing the pictures... too small, these critters... but I am totally happy. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53950185254_19063bc995_z.jpg 20240826_160639_P1355370_DxO by Matthias Bauerfeind , auf Flickr And this one... is it the l...

Re: getting close to a rhododendron leafhopper

Thanks, this indeed sounds like a good combination. Unfortunately, my Oly60 is too short for this, I am using a Lumix 45-175 as a tube lens (or better: I should start using it again...). But of course, the usage of the OM90 makes things a lot more flexible and is a real beast. 1:1? Check. 2:1? Check...

Re: getting close to a rhododendron leafhopper

Great series - I have seen these hoppers, but they are far more interesting than I thought...

BTW: how did you use the microscope objectives? With the OM? Wasn't clear from your description.

Re: Some Insects and spiders in my garden

First, my apologies for distracting the thread. I do hope these discussions will spark others curiosity in exploring unconventional macros. No problem here. There is always something to learn. Sym P. le, thanks for the nudge. I had looked at fixing that earlier, but did not see how to do it well. A...

Re: Some Insects and spiders in my garden

I love my spider, too. Unfortunately, it moved to another place, so no more photos. :( Your calculation matches my experimental data, that's a good sign. I am indeed quite satisfied with the image quality. And having such a sweet model, no one asks about the last bit of sharpness or whatever. At lea...

Re: Some Insects and spiders in my garden

With an extension of 26 mm WD is 30 mm. FOV is 7 * 5.5 mm^2. All values are rough estimates. PS: focus setting is 1:1, at infinity the reproduction ratio is 1.1:1, so no real benefit at all. It may be discussed, if the image quality may be better or worse, but I needed the magnification here.

Some Insects and spiders in my garden

Last week was great. Some of my best insect and spider shots, I think. For a start, a bee in action. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53900113534_a7c4162cb0_z.jpg 20240803_181604_P1349133_DxO by Matthias Bauerfeind , auf Flickr A fly, calmly having an afternoon drink. https://live.staticflickr.co...

Xerolycosa nemoralis (at least, I believe so) - female with baby spiders

Yesterday - sitting on my house wall. Mommy spider taking care of her children.

And, yes, only 7 legs. :(
