Re: motion artifacts in raw burst due to rolling shutter

... Personally I hope to see high-res global shutter cameras in the near future instead of stacked sensor cameras. The Sony A9iii has global shutter and 120fps RAW. Approaching a couple of years since release and only 24.6 megapixels, but there could be a high(er) resolution offering soon. You'll n...

Re: motion artifacts in raw burst due to rolling shutter

I recently had occasion to use the "raw burst pre-shooting" feature of my Canon R7 camera. So, I'm thinking that next time I'll just use up some of the mechanical shutter at 15 fps. Classic fast action burst shooting, I guess. --Rik Pretty interesting post and evaluation. Good to know, I didn’t thi...

Re: Pixel shift camera recommendations

Yes, I agree - I use the Z8 + 24-120mm at work but at home I've used Fuji GFX and Sony (A6*00 and A7RV). The things Nikon has going for them: actual firmware upgrades, not just simply to remove bugs. Sony rarely adds functionality so that's something I really hate about that company. There are four ...

Re: Pixel shift camera recommendations

Yeah and my camera store just so happens to have them heavily discounted for 3.333€ or 3.999 with the 24-120mm.... which is very, very tempting indeed.
I'll have to compare it to the A7RV in the store... one of them is going home with me.

Re: I'm looking for a 2x microscope objective

Hmm that's really difficult. I mean there's the 2x AmScope which could be worth trying - but honestly these days 2x is the realm of macro lenses such as the Laowa lenses and since they are excellent at 0.25x - 2x they've pretty much replaced everything in between. So if you're perhaps also consideri...

Re: Pixel shift camera recommendations

FYI: Nikon just updated the Z8 Firmware a few. days ago - it's not possible to use pixelshift and focus shift combined. Hmm... Did you mean it's no w possible? --Rik Hahaha yes, NOW - or rather in a few days when the firmware will be available for download ;-) I'm really debating with myself whethe...

I'm really really tempted to pull the trigger on a Z8, that's such an awesome addition..

Re: Short cross-polarisation test video

Thank you!
As you can see there's a lot of shake and wobble happening while engaging the CPL, which is exactly what I want to eliminate in my "final" microscope build - I have an idea but I'll first try it myself before recommending to suggesting it to anyone else

Short cross-polarisation test video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APPzlNvQkUs This is just a test to see whether the video IQ is satisfying when transitioning to full extinction - looks like it's handling it pretty well. A bit too bright perhaps but I'll manage :) GFX50S + GF Planachromat 12,5x + DCR 150 (actual magnification probab...

Re: Daphnia

. Nice images! Very strange, I did not expect some of the lines to show up the way they did. And there are some weird glowing bits as well, totally unexpected. :-k On the dorsal half, the + patterns seen as bright in cross-polarized are also seen as dark in brightfield. I suspect these are places w...

Re: Daphnia

Hahah thanks! By the way, I'll be learning heavily on your M42+harley-tube microscope for my next build! Hope that's ok! Hi, But I'm afraid you'll need a 52mm or even a 58mm tube for medium format, won't you? Best, WojTek Hmm I don't think so, the "throat" (where the camera meets the bellows/...

Re: Daphnia

Ahh, so the main difference (compared to a typical extreme macro setup) is using transmitted instead of incident illumination, right? That, and shooting through a coverslip, maybe? Certainly blurs the lines between macro and micro approaches. The made up term "macroscopography" springs to mind... :...

Re: Daphnia

Nicely done! To my eyes, it actually has a kind of "extreme macro" look about it. Not sure if that's the scopes lineage, or just autosuggestion from knowing you made it from macro-parts. Either way - I like the look. Certainly not the typical microscope image of such critters. Do you intend to post...

So I built myself a microscope using leftover parts from the macro rail, on Saturday the last remaining pieces arrived and today I did the 'inauguration'. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54578372453_469cbb6848_b.jpg GFX 50s, Canon FD bellows, DCR150, GF-Planachromat 12.5x 0.25 approx. 60 image s...
