Re: which 20x microscope optics to choose ?

You're welcome, Eric Olympus UIS and UIS2 objectives usually are very expensive but, likely due to lower demand than Mitutoyo, with patience and/or luck they can be bought used for good prices (I got mine few years ago under $100 the 4X and for about $200 the 20X if I remember well) CA = Chromatic A...

Re: crossed Nicol on SM2 setup

The depolarizer still helps with some setups and almost all microscope analyzers have them. Sure, for example I can see some differences between the two visual ways of the trinocular head when rotating an analyzer without depolarizer but I think that Dario has a "macro style" setup, not a complete ...

Re: crossed Nicol on SM2 setup

Extinction ratio must be as high as possible. Another important aspect is the color hue when crossed: many camera pol filters induce a strong blue (or other colors) hue, the general hue is easily corrected but if it is mainly in the highlights (very usual) it will be more annoying. From all my (old)...

Re: which 20x microscope optics to choose ?

This has been discussed several times, for example in this thread: https://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=43827 The 20X I use for macro is the Oly LMPlanFl 20/0.40 UIS (modern infinite for no cover glass, 12mm WD) With a 200mm tube lens it works very well on APSC at 22X. I don't...

Re: Diatoms from Dutch canals

Hi Mas, welcome to the forum! They are very nice diatom pictures. They must have been taken with very good equipment, would be interesting to know the microscope and its objective used and also how you couple the camera (the unsharp circular limit of the image suggests that something in the adaptati...

Re: Using an Orthomat-W optical tube as a wide-field digital camera adapter for Orthoplan

This is a very nice piece of equipment and your results very promising. Despite the results can be good with partially well tuned setup, the key to have it right is the parfocality: - parfocality when changing objectives (only little refocusing needed) - parfocality between the eyepiece visual image...

Re: Carl Zeiss Universal Microscope 1st Edition

The setup looks nice, is there any optics inside the long tube? How long is the tube? So, you don't have the Universal microscope, do you? Be aware that, as we formerly wrote, if you use Zeiss finite corrected objectives (160/ ) without the adequate compensating eyepiece (in this case the best ones ...

Re: Carl Zeiss Universal Microscope 1st Edition

Hi Colin, Welcome to the forum! You're getting good advice from Enrico. The finite BD objectives require the proper correcting eyepieces, just like the finite transmitted illumination objectives for the Zeiss Universal and Standard. The eyepieces are not so difficult to find on eBay. Then you can us...
