Re: WTB Mituotoyo M Plan APO HR 10X NA 0.42

Well, if the optics are adequate for covering FF I assume that in most cases it would preferable over APSC, but here the problem is the limited high quality image circle. For covering FF we would need to get higher magnification with a longer tube lens or other devices like tele-converters or higher...

Re: WTB Mituotoyo M Plan APO HR 10X NA 0.42

Not offended, and neither meant to offend from my part, of course. Just different experiences and setups. I need to measure the thickness of the filter element on mine--the filter having to be replaced on yours is the only major difference I can think of between our copies Please, do it if possible!...

Re: WTB Mituotoyo M Plan APO HR 10X NA 0.42

You might want to look at this https://www.ebay.com/itm/167377891050 It covers aps-c well at 8x on a 200mm tube lens, an 8x/0.4 is not a bad potential alternative to the mitty depending on your usage needs. If I had any lens budget I'd have made an offer but I already have one so it would be greedy...

Re: 5X Gigapan rusty cent

does anyone have any idea what these microscopic yellow-green bean-shaped structures that can be seen scattered all over the surface of the coin could be?
Pine pollen grains, I think

Re: Nikon EPI illuminator

3.What is the purpose of the slot marked with a red arrow in the photo?
It seems too small for a filter slider, could it be for inserting a tool for extracting the cube?

Re: Metaphot/Microphot light housing bulb

The pictured lamp (and maybe also the lamp holder) seems more of the home illumination type (also used in some low end microscopes without Köhler illumination). For Köhler illumination the filaments usually are flattened and more or less square (and of course they are precentered or can be centered)...

Re: Blood

Congrats, this is one of the best SEM blood images set I've seen. There is one blood platelet in the image. Can you spot it? sure, near the left bottom corner: platelet.jpg Some are "crenated" with "spikes". That is most likely an artifact caused by the sodium citrate I used as anti-coagulant. I sho...

Re: Focusable Modular Microscope LED Illuminator

Impressive work, very neat and clever. I have few questions: - Do you use a single die LED or a COB with your 10W implementation?. - When you set it for Köhler, how well does the LED image fill the rear plane field? -How do you focus the LED? , maybe turning the black round part? Of course I've link...

Re: Neuron

Likely I was wrong: this neuron cell body could be placed in the brain. This did remember me the giant motor neurons of the spinal cord but they are placed into the grey substance I've just posted a pair of old pictures I took of them https://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=303037#p30...

Spinal Cord Giant Motor Neurons

A recent post of a giant neuron picture* remembered me ones I took back in 2008 to illustrate elementary Histology at the classroom. A bought prepared slide stained with Golgi/Cajal black reaction silver method Taken with an EOS 20D afocally with a 25X NPL Fluotar objective in an old Zeiss Standard....

Beatsy, given the subject matter, you may have expected caustic comments, but not from me.

It' may be basic, but it's also very nice . . .

It thinks, therefore it is :D

Surprisingly large-looking. What mag was it shot at?
Very likely it's a giant motor neuron cell body of the spinal chord (their axon con reach up to few meters depending of the animal size)
If so it doesn't think, it acts :D
