Hello, For my part I can't see the bug despite the quality of the photo :) As a reminder or information read from Wikipedia : An exemple of the bug : 4,195,835.0 / 3,145,727.0 = 1.333820449136241000 (correct), 4,195,835.0 / 3,145,727.0 = 1.333739068902037600 (wrong). Re: Near the center of the CD

Hello Lou,

This is only a border near the center of the disk.
The pieces of information are stored on the silver part.
On the silver part, there is a protective layer, below a reflecting layer, and below a recording layer where the bits are.

Peach mold

Dear microscopists.

We are slowly moving towards the end of summer, the air is humid, and fruits are getting moldy. Here is a mold that has developed on a peach.

Re: Piece of glass found on a beach

Thank you.
Sometimes the simplest things to the naked eye reveal real beauties under the microscope.

Piece of glass found on a beach

Dear Microscopists, I found a piece of green glass on a beach. Always looking for surprises in the small world, I put it under the microscope to see how it looked like in detail with the erosion work. Observed with a clever empirical mix of under, over and oblique lighting (not easy with the reflect...

Copper sulfate

Dear microscopic friends Copper sulfate (in powder form) observed under polarized light (episcopy and diascopy). The observation is quite easy (less reflections than when we observe grains of sand for example) and the result is quite pretty (well I think). Sulfate de cuivre - Didier Barbet.JPG Regar...

Copper acetate II

Dear microscopist friends An easy observation to make. Take a a coin of one cent of euros (steel covered with copper), put one or two drops of vinegar (acetic acid) on it, and just wait a few hours. Here's the result : Copper acetate (1).jpg Copper acetate (3).jpg Copper acetate (4).jpg Copper aceta...

Re: Bacillaria paxillifera: the dancing diatom

Hi Luis,

The movement of these diatoms is particular and surprising.
Thank you to share.
How do you manage to not have such a clean background ?

Silicate III

Dear Microscopists,

Here's a silicate.
One sees well the different stacked sheets ones on the others and I think the stresses inside the mineral responsible for the shimmering colors.

Re: Diatoms in epi DIC

Hello,
The marriage of orange and silver colors on the black background is successful and unusual.
A higher magnification with more details of the diatom could be great ?

Not moscovite I think, because moscovite is rather white from what I see on photo of moscovite. My sample is darker.
