Interesting comparison study, nicely done. Taking a fresh look at an ubiquitous material is always good!

Re: BPAE fluorescent cells
No such question if you just go by the frame, perhaps that is the way to go. What I was thinking is that the images in different color channels are really qualitatively quite different. Filament mess in one, organelle cloud in another, nuclei blobs in other etc. Especially in a bit thicker samples a...

Re: BPAE fluorescent cells
Kudos for beautiful work on a classic target! Indeed holds ground even next to confocal stuff.
Just curious, have you experimented with stacked pics? Stackers introduce almost by default alignment off-sets in different channels, how much extra difficulty/work does that imply?

Stunning work! All nicely done and fits beautifully together. Imagery, voice, sound, all in rhythm.
Thanks for posting (I don't have enough patience to weed out youtube for gems).

Re: Achtung Phomi Meisters!
Yes, the light path of Phomi is pretty daunting. I don't much care about that byzantine maze in the stand and would have been perfectly happy finding an Universal, but this deal came my way. Whatever I do with the prisms etc. in there is open. As you say, could be a good source of spares. The though...

Re: Achtung Phomi Meisters!
Hi Adam, Thanks a lot for an excellent reply! On your hint I went back to the endcaps. With some sticky rubber, gloves and brisk arm twisting I finally got the right side off. It's indeed on a fine thread, looks like 0.5mm rise per revolution. Got the piston carefully out. Nothing wrong with it or t...

Achtung Phomi Meisters!
A while ago got a hint on a Photomicroscope III and ended up getting it. Curious me, just to see if it is any good next to a Zetopan ;-) Came with good price & some fine glass, too, so it was a nobrainer really. Must say I've always liked its shape (I somewhat dislike angular scopes). This is a late...

Re: Diatom imaged with 313nm light
Good work, thanks for posting! Yours is interestingly just a hair below UVA. Never done that, so can't comment how abruptly things change. But e.g. for narrow band 365 nm excitation (above 340 or so) you often do not need any special optics. For example Reichert (Plan or not) Achros work fine there ...

Re: Amazing James Webb Space Telescope
Really nice video, thanks. Good family work! The bit on layers shaped to channel out the radiation was indeed striking. Never thought of that. I was hoping that they'd say something about what is happening when a micrometeorite (inevitably) hits the shield. How many layers is it likely to penetrate ...

Re: Amazing James Webb Space Telescope
Nice video, thanks. Brilliant devices these hexapods. Yet I'm still dumbfounded, how/how many of these they (the design engineers) expected to survive the shock of the launch? I suspect there must be a fair amount of redundancy built in. Will they perhaps completely "decomission" a mirror segment if...

Re: Fern sori autofluorescence: spores everywhere
Beautiful subject & shot. Congrats.
I think you might perhaps use a bit less exposure. For more intense colors. Fewer explosions as a side benefit, too.
