Re: Mitutoyo objective and Full frame advice
Thank you very much Ray. I could understand from your post that Mitutoyo performs better than Nikon BD. We can see the subject is more crisp with good contrast. I also understood that full frame will reduce the size of the subject for the same objective magnification with that of the cropped sensor....

Mitutoyo objective and Full frame advice
Hi friends Greetings!!! I have already received the advice from the forum when I started with photomicrography. Many thanks to Linden, Pau, Clarnibass, Chris, Little-field for guiding me. My set up has evolved since then. At present I am using the Nikon Epi Plan ELWD 20x and 50X on a Olympus BH2 mic...

Microscope objective
Thank you guys for all your knowledgeable input. I have made my mind for the purchase of the camera, lenses and other accessories, except for the objective. One last request to help me. I need more magnification for fungi that are relatively smaller than insects. So decided to stick to 50X objective...

... I shall go with the canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM. I also read that the prime lenses are sharper than zoom lenses. Thanks or your advice. Before making any expensive buy, best think in the whole setup you need and the budget at your disposal. A modern water sealed IS L Canon zoom or tele es good...

1- At the microscope the through-the-eyepieces visual image magnification is computed by comparison of the same object viewed with the naked eye placed at 250mm. It is the result of the product of objective magnification x eyepiece magnification (and x whatever intermediate magnification device ins...

Re: Fungi
I am assuming this is some sort of fungi. It is growing on a willow leaf and most of the other leaves were covered in similar colonies. At first I thought is was a waxy secretion from some weird scale type insects, but as soon as I looked under magnification I knew I was wrong. There are crown shap...

Use of telephoto lens and adapter for microscope objectives
Hi Guys!! I am happy to be in the forum. I am reading a lot and gaining knowledge in extreme macro. I should first thank the family of photomacrography.net. I have a question regarding magnification and I am confused with that. The things which we see through a microscope eye piece may have a magnif...

Hi, After some delay, I've managed to get my system working to a stage where it's looking promising. My setup is: Canon 6D Nikon 200mm Nikkor Ai f/4 tube lens Adaptor 20x Mitutoyo objective (thanks Mike :-) ) Canon 600EXII-RT Speedlight (with tissue paper as diffuser) Canon Speedlight transmitter S...

Others seem to know better what the disadvantages of zoom lenses might be, but I guess it depends on the specific lens. The advantage that was mentioned is you can get lower magnification with the same objective, but how much also depends on the specific objective and lens. It's been a while since ...

3. Nikon CF Plan 50X 0.55 inf/- EPI ELWD This is an excellent objective. It covers well on APS-C even when used with a 100 mm tube lens, so as to give effectively 25X NA 0.55 . See for example the blowfly proboscis at http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=103825#103825 . One drawbac...

If it's only for high magnification work and you might use continuous light, go for the 7D2 (or something cheaper). 20/24Mp is immaterial really, it's only about 10% on a side. For bells and whistles, and a somewhat more modern sensor (Quality is very close), the 80D. The folding/touch screen is de...

Re: Beginner in extreme macro
I will go with a Canon 80D I'm checking you understood what I wrote about vibrations? If you use the Electronic Front Shutter Curtain to avoid vibration, note that it is NOT vibration-free on some Canons. I don't know about all the models especially current ones. Try it in a shop Select Live View a...

Re: Beginner in extreme macro
C. I have two more doubts from your advice. 1.May I know the reason why 70-200 is better and 70-300 will be worse. I was thinking that if vignetting is an issue then 300mm should perform better than a 200mm and may give more magnification. Will the sharpness will be worse in 300mm? Please make me u...
