Re: Flash artifact?

Yes, the bands were not obvious in Lightroom CC. I reviewed each image at full screen and no obvious bands. I loaded the images into Helicon Focus and reviewed the individual images again. I discovered about a dozen photos out of 120 images that had bands. I'm no sure why the bands weren't obvious i...

Re: Many Mitutoyos for sale

Macro-Cosmos, thanks for the good gouge. Lightglass sent me the "-6" version. If it's used, I can't tell. It's a real pretty objective and performs nicely. Regardless, I guess I'm hesitant to buy from the lowest bidder and would prefer to pay a little more with a known reputable seller. Lightglass h...

Re: Flash artifact?

I should have noted that I have the shutter release connected to the WeMacro controller and I'm using WeMacro's software to control the stack. In the past I used Helicon Remote, but got out of the habit since Helicon seems to have difficulty keeping their software up to date whenever Canon changes i...

Flash artifact?

This may be a simple problem, but it's stymied me today. Maybe someone can help me get back on track again. I was experimenting with a couple of cheap Chinese speedlites, using one as Master and other as Slave. I took a stack using them with a Canon M6MII in manual mode on a WeMacro rail. I used a s...

Many Mitutoyos for sale

Hello, This may be old news for many of you. My apology. However, I just received a Mitutoyo M Plan APO 5x I purchased from Lightglass Optics. They have a large stock of them for $420 plus shipping & tax. The description on their website is ambiguous and implies that their stock is a mix of new and ...

Re: New to MFTs

Welcome to MFT. They are a lot of fun! Much has been written on the forum about MFT cameras and lenses, and their advantages and disadvantages. Far too much to repeat here. I suggest you do a forum search on MFT. You'll come up with a large volume of very helpful material. My main reason for liking...

New to MFTs

Hello, With the second economic impact payment burning a hole in my pocket, I decided to do my patriotic duty to stimulate the economy. I impetuously purchased a modest Lumix GX85 micro four thirds camera body. I had heard that MFTs offered advantages in macrophotography such as a 2X crop factor and...

Re: Mitutoyo blemishes... or inflated expectations?

Hello, Thanks everyone for sharing your comments and suggestions. Given my doubts, I decided to return the objective. The seller has accepted my return request with no debate. Proves that the quality of the seller is as important as the item for sell. Given my retentiveness and low threshold for ris...

Mitutoyo blemishes... or inflated expectations?

Hello, Sorry for being long-winded in advance. I'm a relatively new extreme-macro enthusiast practicing my technique for roughly the past year or so. I started using microscope objectives soon after starting, yet many of their traits still remain mysteries to me. I worked my way from a relatively in...

WeMacro & Helicon Focus

Hi, I use a similar setup (using Canon cameras) with a laptop running MS Windows 10. I occasionally have problems with Helicon Remote "seeing" my hardware. I've found that if I first turn on the camera and the WeMaco module and then load Helicon, things work OK, most of the time (USB ports can be a ...

Robber Fly

Here are a few photos of a robber fly I took recently; I believe it may be a mallophora sp. I used Helicon Focus 7 (method B) for the head and quarter shots. I tried out Zerene (pyramid method) on the profile shot. I find the color balance much nicer from Helicon. However, there are so many stacking...

Re: My first successful stack

Looking for a hobby after getting unemployed three years ago I stumbled upon this site. Finding some material in tnriftstores and experimenting with it, this is the first stack I'm happy with. Maybe a little too dark but I liked the atmosphere. Be gentle on me. http://www.photomacrography.ne...

Thanks! Ring flash and a couple of work lights using off-the-self LED bulbs (25 watts, I think, at about 5000K) with a DIY diffuser made from a large white plastic funnel I bought from a homebrew beer store. Its quite the contraption.

Thanks for all the good gouge! The more I investigate, lubrication does not sound like a good idea. To show my level of mechanical engineering, I had never heard of a "lead screw." I first thought, "lead as in Pb?" Anyhow, I searched around for some layperson's information and found this interesting...
