Do ants like these things?
The ants were only on this one goldenrod plant, and it was the only place I found these other critters. They were small and resemble cicada only much much smaller than I'm used to seeing. All with Olympus E-3/50 f2 macro/EC-14 teleconverter and Canon 250D with Metz 15 MS-1 macro flash. http://www.sp...

Thanks for the comment. Its just that I've been trying all spring for that shot. The working distance for the 50 f2 is a bit more than 4" without the 250D, so I may have been in the plant to some degree. Every once in a while there is a good macro day where things just seem to work out. That day was...

Just a bee...
Its just a bee, but the things finally slowed up enough so I was able to get to the minimum focal distance of my kit. They were still active, but stayed on the same plant much longer. Looks like an Assassin Bug. This one probably feeds on other bugs but some of its relatives are dreaded blood-suckers (including humans). Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. After looking, I think it may be a Western Conifer Seed Bug. I'm not sure, but the sturdy base of the anetnna i...

What did I shoot???
I was wondering just what this thing is. I'd put the body size at about the size of a midge. I thought it was some type of bug when I was shooting it, but the length and style of the mouth parts makes me question that. Its not the best pic, but I hope its good enough for an ID. I'm in Southern Wisco...

Cool, I've never seen a Robber fly like that! Nice captures, especially interesting due to the similarity between the predator and prey... I was puzzled taking the pics. I couldn't understand the obsession as it seemed so strange that one bumblebee couldn't let go of the other. They were exactly th...

You must be pleased with that Greg! Shows well the similarities and differences between them, it looks sharp , dof is good, lighting good for a field shot. Are you going to tell us what they are, where, and can you expand on what you used? "E-3/50 f2/EC-14"? :) I must say I've little training in th...

Metz 15 ms-1 and short working distance problem
I just added the Metz 15 MS-1 and the Olympus 35 macro to my kit. My problem is the 35 macro has a short working distance at 1 to 1, and the front lens element is set in about an inch when mounted normally. I am looking for a solution that would bring the lens more flush with the front of the ringfl...
