I would not 3d print these particular adapters, you need metal. They need to be thin and the orientation would put stresses on the weakest planes of a print. You can get cheap Chinese rms male to m25 female. 75mm is limited to some water immersion objectives with a long working distance, both Olympu...

I was able to just barely fit a Nikon 20x/0.75 onto mine with an adapter. Nice to have that level of flexibility in the stage, my Nikon e800 will not go high enough for 45mm parfocal objectives or low enough for 75mm.

On the optiphot head all of the ergonomic stuff is exclusively in the eyepiece's light path. I use mine with a coaxial illuminator and don't get vignetting.
Epi DIC is a lot cheaper to set up for sure and somewhat more forgiving of mixing and matching.

Re: BX40 head -- SW-TR30 w fn/22 eyepieces temporarily for the better tube lens, or U-TR-30 regular head?

The superwide head/tube lens makes a noticeable difference in the corners when direct projecting onto aps-c. That said the normal head/tlu covers aps-c, just with weaker corners. Personally ever since I tried bausch and lomb 15x/20 ultra widefield eyepieces I have loved ultrawide FoVs. That varies f...

Re: Exactly how fragile are the mitutoyo 10x 20x etc, or is it an enigma?

"I don't think a 50x HR 0.75 NA is going to fall (gently?) from the sky at me anytime for an unreal price :D" Well, you already have something better than that (same NA and with a FOV more than twice as large), and for $100! The 20x/0.75s are awesome but there is some difference between 1mm of work...

I am sorry to say the 10x and 20x are awesome jn good condition and should definitely be sought out. The 10x is pretty often available at affordable prices from what I've seen, the 20x a bit less often.

Re: Lasertec 5x 0.25 HR Objective on eBay

I shoot aps-c, but on a microscope with coaxial illumination and epi DIC frequently used so messing with the infinity focus isn't really an option.

Re: Lasertec 5x 0.25 HR Objective on eBay

The lack of coverslip correction on the engineering version would be handy but I'm keeping an eye out for one of those too, deals on S Fluors aren't as common as they apparently once were. Really I should be fine with my az 4x/0.40 at 8x, but having a good enough lens rarely stopped me before.

Re: Lasertec 5x 0.25 HR Objective on eBay

Robert figured out the identity of these objectives and sent me the information shortly before his passing. Nikon Engineering used to advertise HR objectives which match the specs of the lasertec ones almost exactly (slight difference in working distance that probably comes down to a later design tw...

I think my success rate on used mitutoyo objectives is about 80%, some duds but really not that many. Lower success rate on mitutoyo-alikes.

Re: KEYENCE VH-Z75 what is it?

Yeah, this is a photo macroscope system, nice 10:1 parfocal zoom. It won't cover large formats though. The stand should be of excellent quality.
The main objective might be a Mitutoyo m plan apo. Worth examining.

Re: A flat plane of focus - does it really matter?

Usually flatness is corrected for before CA and other distortions so there is a correlation between flat fields and higher image quality, but it doesn't have to be so. The exceptions are usually either rare edge cases where flatness wasn't a priority but IQ was or just weird examples like the Lomo 3...

Re: Question about Optiphot and infinity corrected objectives

Nikon 160 objectives are generally cover slip corrected so they wouldn't be a good match for wafer work. Their metallurgical objectives are 210 and have to be paired with an illuminator to provide the extra space. Technically they will work with the infinity illuminator and you can fit a finite head...
