Let's not be hasty. Maybe he means mineralloids.

Re: High-extinction-ratio linear polarizer
While decent ones are cheap, optical grade high extinction ones are typically more pricey. You might luck out on new old stock edmund optics or thorlabs on eBay.

Re: Axial Lights II (Ghostbuster?)
I have seen the ghost. It was in a trinocular olympus sz4045 clone that had been awkwardly converted from 100/0 to 50/50 by glueing the swing arm in place and replacing the first surface mirror with a half mirror. It was fine in most lighting but darkfield showed a significant offset double image.

This award was inevitable and very well-deserved.

Too bad it's monochrome. Should be amazing for some applications though.

Re: Cleaning dust from a camera sensor
Wet swabs definitely leave a mess if you use the tiniest bit too much fluid, but they have worked great for me after I figured that out. Then again your mileage may vary at higher MP or larger sensors, I'm just using a canon t7.

Re: Cleaning dust from a camera sensor
My local camera store cleans sensors free but they had a newbie do mine and she used too much fluid and left it worse than it started. Fortunately the one use swab kits have worked great for me.

Re: Optimal DSLR cameras vs 35mm film resolution
4mp is certainly not enough to get the most out of a zeiss standard. If you are getting badly smeared corners it more likely indicates a problem with the photo setup, which is an easy problem to run into with zeiss. 18mm isn't a huge FoV, limiting relative to a modern objective, but the zeiss object...

Re: Optimal DSLR cameras vs 35mm film resolution
One big factor not really addressed here are the eyepiece corrections. Zeiss 160mm objectives are not fully complete in and of themselves, they require a particular eyepiece which adds final corrections to the image. An ideal camera setup will use a Zeiss photo eyepiece and a relay lens, which will ...

Re: Teleconverters in macro
Yes, it will give you 14x. You will still be well within the reasonable magnification for the objective's numerical aperture.

Re: Variable Magnification Mitutoyo 5x
What I don't understand about this setup is that once the Raynox is away from infinity focus, how the system can manage to focus anything. An infinity objective doesn't only work when producing an image focused at infinity, it is just optimized for those conditions. You can use a mitutoyo 5x with n...

Re: Variable Magnification Mitutoyo 5x
It will certainly change working distance, it's just having the mitutoyo act as a finite objective.

Re: A Canon MPE-65 alternative?
This Leitz/Wild lens (assuming it's the same across different contexts) can sometimes be had for much less than 300 dollars as well. These results are impressive and I am excited to test mine too when I get a chance, I even have the adapters from setting one up for afocal.
