Re: Using non-chroma-free infinity objectives

As I recall this particular Reichert industrial series doesn't do corrections in the tube lens (one of the only ones we have good test results for because Robert has compared several tube lenses includjng a Reichert one to others with a mitutoyo 5x objective). The eyepiece corrections aren't super s...

Re: Using non-chroma-free infinity objectives

No, it is not. They have their own different formulae and they may vary even from one series to another by the same maker. Part of it is simplicity but I suspect a big part is keeping things proprietary within their systems.

Re: which 20x microscope optics to choose ?

All nikon infinity objectives use a 200mm tube lens to get their nominal magnification.

My Wild M10 is hypercentric. Maybe that is related.

Re: fs: LEICA HR PlanApo 5x/0.50 LWD WD 19mm

With a 200mm fl tube lens it will give 10x magnification. Certainly a lens I've only dared speculate about, but the 2x from the same system (this is a Z series objective retrofit to the stereos) gives remarkable results. Scarodactyl, can you elaborate on that? I have one of those Leica PlanApo lens...

Hmm, I think what I have is probably better.
If you always want to crop the image down it's a nonissue, just seems like a shame to discard a large chunk of your available FoV.

Re: Darned difficult diatom dotting, decisively done!

An olympus head with an empty adapter will cover aps-c (with some minor corner degradarion if you don't have an uw head) as long as there isn't something like a c mount physically blocking the light.

Re: Darned difficult diatom dotting, decisively done!

It is an impressive setup and some great resolution. I'll admit I'm curious what the bottleneck is on the camera that it's projecting a c-mount sized circle--did you also have to use a more transmissive tube lens?

I wonder if we could also make a list every relevant olympus objective with comments and links where information is known. There aren't too many.

FAQ--which Olympus objectives are good for macro work, and which are not?

This is a quick draft that needs some photos with appropriate permissions and probably some more setails, but it is a start. Please post additions, corrections, questions or especially photos that may be used. I don't have any infinity splans or dplans anymore. There are two main eras of Olympus inf...

Re: which 20x microscope optics to choose ?

There are only a few olympus infinity objectives that had eyepiece corrections, splans and dplans. They also have different styling from later uis/uis-2 objectives. So--could you perhaps write a FAQ? Sure, though I would certainly defer to Alan on this since he's the olympus expert. It would be a p...
