Re: How super is the Olympus superapo?

I wish I had a better rms adapter for the nikon. The acetominophen stacks were very similar but with center and edge so offset it's a losing battle to try and compare apples to apples.

Re: How super is the Olympus superapo?

I was wrong, the Nikon 20x planapo (the one that's sometimes cheap on eBay) barely fits onto the scope if the stage is put down as far as it goes. Unfortunately the generic m25 to rms adapter I got on eBay is hot garbage, and the nikon objective isn't centered quite right. As such the two stacks of ...

Re: Worth 3x the price? Olympus 100x fluorite VS superapochromat (and 3 more 100x objectives)

Very interesting. The contrast in CA seems significantly smaller than the 20xes show, though I imagine a big part of what you're paying for is consistent corrections across a wide field of view. Is there any chance you could show the corners with the mag changer at 1x? Certainly with the 2x on there...

Re: Wild Heerbrugg M400

It's like 20w, not likely to get too hot. I have one of these bases but the fan whines to the point it isn't really usable, so i've been pondering something similar, or maybe a fiber optic retrofit. I'll look forward to seeing how the project progresses.

Re: How super is the Olympus superapo?

Well, if I'm going to do it better to do it right (or at least closer). Here's some shots of an eyepiece micrometer, wetted and with a cover slip put on top, bulb at full power for the best color temperature and all that. This should give a much better idea of the difference in CA. https://i.imgur.c...

Re: How super is the Olympus superapo?

Nice results, I've always wondered about these. 20x NA 0.75, awesome, whats the downside other than cost, WD? Mostly cost I think. The fluorite doesn't really have much longer working distance, though I guess it's less important when looking at slides. Don't you think the difference might mostly be...

How super is the Olympus superapo?

I recently got my grubby hands on an Olympus UplanSapo 20x/0.75. Seeing an "s" in front of an "apo" is not always a good sign--some makers mean "semi apo" by this, which honestly seems intentionally deceptive when we already have a term for fluorite optics, but not Olympus--the "s" here stands for "...

A travel macro stand setup

A friend of mine recently asked me to put together a travel photography setup for him since he will be going overseas for a bit. He currently has a Wild M7 which he gets good results with but isn't exactly portable, plus he was hoping to improve overall image quality (the M7 does show some axial CA ...

Re: New Mitutoyo apo 10x

Yeah, nothing in the crops looks worrying, though it would be the corners that would. But it's not like you can return it, so even if there were some subtle problem it clearly takes very solid shots, no need to overthink it.

Re: Need help on putting a Microscope Objective on a zoom lens

Slwd lenses usually have longer working distances than elwd, to the point of sacrificing too much resolution for photography. This may vary from company to company.
I would mount it right against the front of the lens.

Re: New Mitutoyo apo 10x

Hard to say from web resolution images. But I got a USMC 10x a couple weeks back which ended up having bad delamination (wprse than this for sure), and one thing I have noticed is the image is distinctly yellowish. I wonder if you are seeing thr same effect here, or if your subjects just happen to b...

Re: PrimeFilm 10,000 dpi Scanner Arrives...in Pieces

That would be the same NA as a mitty 5x, right? (Or are dpi not equivalent to linepairs per inch?)
It's weird that almost all scanner makers lie about their specs.

Re: MEJIRO GENOSSEN FL0530 4.0/110 FLOAT LENS TEST IS FINALLY ONLINE

Ooh, I like that performance and mag range. It would be tempting to try and figure out a way to shrink that image down to get a 1x image on aps-c even if that would be ridiculous overkill. Realistically my z6 apo is plenty for me in this mag range, but that doesn't stop the heart from yearning. Mayb...
