Re: Caution: shipping to the USA, anti-dumping targeted at goods from China
Hmmm... I ordered some small and cheap items from China and there were no issues... maybe for more expensive stuff? Stupid/unnecessary/too broad laws are everywhere, overzealous workers too... and as per the saying When elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers. And although I do understand you...

Caution: shipping to the USA, anti-dumping targeted at goods from China
Hi, If you send items to the USA, you might want to know this. Items originating from China are subjected to anti-dumping forms. So far, I have learned that steel and aluminium are impacted. No matter how inconsequential, the customs might catch it. It is likely better to lie about the origin. Due t...

Re: A promising new products for flocking and eliminating veiling glare.
Are they really better than the standard, easily available 3M/generic flocking adhesive? for shure in regard of fibre emission since it is a foam and does not spread small fibres like the usual flocking material. It should not spread fibres. Get yourself a lint roller and roll it over several times...

Re: Olympus BX-RFA or BX-URA2
Reflected DF requires a light shield barrier to be installed into the arm where the nosepiece is and a conversion lens, RCV or something must also be used. So unless you need reflected DF, the more powerful RFA would be preferable. The RFA is specifically for fluorescence microscopy whereas the URA ...

Re: Benthic diatomeas
They are quite common in my benthic samples. Let me know how could I prepare a slide and I may send it to you. Would it be enough if I sent them in an eppendorf tube in 70% ethanol? You could mount them into a permanent slide. Neutral balsam, or even UV resin will work well enough. You can manipula...

Re: What features and comforts would your hypothetical dream camera system have, based on your needs?
Super fun everything, of the easier things I quoted I wonder if a semi-portable camera with peltier junction cooling with water cooling on the peltier has had any application for some specific field. Power hungry, but maybe not impossibly heavy or expensive. I would love mini-hdmi over micro hdmi, ...

Re: What features and comforts would your hypothetical dream camera system have, based on your needs?
I know there are liquid lenses, but are there liquid filters? A filter that could continuously adjust across the visible range (and beyond) would allow a monochromatic sensor to be exposed at any wavelength. Yeah, there are liquid crystal continuously adjustable bandpass filters. The OD is often pr...

Re: Mitutoyo 10x 0.42 M Plan APO HR lens adventure
If you watch closely, you can see in each video that the barrel of the objective has several small holes that are filled with white stuff. Yeah, you are right. I have seen people with a DIY setup to do this. They have this circular thing with several micrometers poking in. My guess is that the adhe...

Re: What features and comforts would your hypothetical dream camera system have, based on your needs?
If we are talking about a theoretical camera here, I will have some fun then. Sensor: I want a circular sensor with 42mm in diameter, pixel size should be about 3.6x3.6um. That would translate to something along the lines of 107mp? A hybrid shutter, this means both global and rolling, with a bit dep...

Re: Diatoms: Kittonia elaborata (edit: stereo added)
PS. I have a *tiny* cleaned sample of the Russian diatomite that K. tripedia is found in. Sadly, I only found two broken examples in the whole sample (enough for two moderate-sized strews). One of the finds at least has two of the "stalks" intact - but it only acts as confirmation that the species ...
